Hamel Family Wines Zinfandel Armor Plate Vineyard

Excellent Zinfandel, young (still) and high in alcohol content - this will benefit from 4-5 more years in the bottle. Lots of plums and blueberries, oak; good structure, fine tannins, long ending with barrel spice. Not exceedingly complex but very concentrated and powerful. Zinfandel fans will not be disappointed. A few more years should help this develop secondary notes better as the barrel spice mellows. 93 today with 95 potential.

PnP. Opens with beautiful aromas of blueberry, licorice, black raspberry, pepper and black cherry. On the palate are blackberry, anise, spice and pepper with a touch of oak showing up. Smooth tannins in a long finish.

Dark ruby in color with moderate legs. Had this with spaghetti and spicy sausage in marinara sauce, and it was very good. I've read the WS and WA reviews, and am surprised that neither mentioned the acid level in this wine - it's tart, but that's what I want with Italian food. Maybe tomorrow it will be different.

Second time We’ve had this last 3 months. Actually better in second day (albeit we have less than a glass left each). The nose on the second day here is incredible. Alas, no more, or the next one I would truly open and let sit a day. The nose is simply unbelievable.

I don't know what more there is to want from a Zin. Rich, captivating, full bodied. A bit of a mix between fruity and earthy. A little dry on the finish, but not in a bad or off putting way. Well worth the $75.
