Well well. I think i gave the last bottle of this 98/100 when tried at the winery back in April . This bottle opened to celebrate some good news in the Angas family. This bottle from Lady Frenulums cellar and it pains me to admit it but was superior to the bottle from my cellar I took to the winery by a poofteenth. This was primal, tight, dark, young and has hardly moved an inch since release. Deep brooding crimson …

if you have just read the review of the 1998 then i do not need to extol further virtue on the class of Hutton Vale wines, their longevity, their drinking pleasure and the company and time defying spiritual grace this property offers. Apart from the 1975 Moss Wood also consumed at Hutton Vale over lunch which was phantasmagorical ( my new favorite word), this 1999 Shiraz ( luckily from my cellar where 4 more bottles reside) was the best of …

Last consumed 6 years ago, this was carefully poured having been stood up for about 2 months. This was followed over 4 hours. A beautiful mature wine with quite of bit of sediment that requires decanting. Mature wine aromas juxtaposed with fresh fruit and great acids on the palate craft a thought-provoking and special experience. The pedigree of this vineyard speaks in this bottle. Terrific. Will definitely decline from here, so I would drink up over the next 3-6 years. …

One of 14 wines experienced at a Back to the Future wine tasting at a Dallas TX steakhouse. I'm going to give an NR on this wine as my rating very much disagrees with everyone else's. I think this wine is way past peak. When compared to a 1999 Silesian Barossa shiraz, this one was just sad. The nose was rather flat. Weak. Dried oak was the primary note, with some overripe blackberry jam and pungent tar. This wine had …

One of the best and most distinctive wines I've enjoyed this year. Decanted for 2 hours and enjoyed over the following 3 hours. This wine was dark inky purple in color with a moderate amount of sediment in the bottle. Initially, the boquet was strong and earthy with a barnyard undertone but this funkiness blew off during the first hour in the decanter when the fruit began to show through. On entry, it was clear immediately that this was something …

Wow. This is an austere fantastic Shiraz. Improved dramatically after 1-2 hours of air. Great mild tannin. 90 second finish with tons going on. This should last 5+ years, but its drinking beautifully now. 93+

An absolutely surprising and stunning wine. I approached the just poured glass with trepidation, expecting something overblown or over the hill, but the nose told me right away that I was in for a real treat. What a bright and fresh piercing nose of ripe wild red berries. Velvet is the mouthfeel, with beautiful red and dark berry juice, natural sweetness. Some earth comes through in the nose a little later. This wine is so happy, but not lacking for …

Another stunning wine. Decanted since 11am until dinner around 8pm. This kept changing continuously throughout the night. It started as a classic worldclass Shiraz and developed into a Bordeaux-like personality while retaining what uniquely gives it away as Aussie Shiraz. The elegance, round, fleshy fruit are framed by some earth tones, licorice, and the slightest bit of oak. Sensational wine. The story is that Hutton Vale originally owned 3 plots of land and sold off 2 of them during a …

Superb wine. Wonderful dark, fruity nose. Large scaled spicy, fruity palate that went on forever. Great palate feel of dark fruits.
