Napa 2023 Stony Hill Chardonnay SHV ($40 Wine Slash). Sharp mid-dark gold, some tears (13.0 alc.); honey, vanilla, wine lees, almond nose; mid acids; mid+ depth; long semi-lush honey and wood finish. 16.5/91.

13.0%, dry and minerally in a sophisticated way. No tropicality whatsoever; in fact, tastes more French than Californian. Doesn't remind me of Stony Hills past, but I like it.

Glad this wasn’t flawed, I didn’t get a ton of fruit here more mild white fruit with a hint of citrus. There was ample acidity to make it a joy to drink as a break from the cabs we were tasting. The finish was medium with no real pop.

1997 vintage

Not a bad wine, but not to our preference. We found it to be rather tart and very little (perhaps no) oak character at all. Quite heavy bodied with a nice mouth feel, and did have some apple and citrus notes. It just didn't seem particularly well balanced, to us. Probably wouldn't buy it again.

Medium golden yellow in color. Nose was initially primarily of oxidative notes but eventually opened up to revel an attractive & fragrant nose of ripe fruit aromas of apples, stone fruit & citrus notes of lemons/limes with overtones of floral notes, almonds, minerals & stony notes in the background (no pun intended). Bluebird Hill Cellars makes some nice Chardonnay. Very light oak if any. Nice noise of apple, pineapple, citrus and starfruit (or something tropical). Finish is long and fruity, with crisp acidity.

I thought this was wonderful. The acidity was perfectly balanced. Could have had a touch more breadth on the palate but that’s a minor nit to pick. Excellent!

Nothing wrong here, but nothing right either. Simple, decent balance, lacks both complexity and flavor. And we gave it a couple of hours air time just in case.

Drank from Riedel Chablis glasses; pulled from cooler, popped and poured. Score based on wine in the glass - potential up to low-mid nineties. Light gold color. Medium somewhat muted nose of quince with a hint of pineapple. Fruit was tight, although it did open up some over an hour to reveal tart green apples, minerals with a slightly creamy mouth feel. An incredibly fine California Chardonnay. I've been waiting for that aged Stony Hill "magic" that others talk about but takes patience to find. The wine has a medium nose of complex citrus, earth, stone and lime and the flavors are medium intensity and the same. The mouthfeel is inredibly voluptuous! Seattle offline at Daniel's Broiler (Seattle, WA, USA) : When I poured this in the glass I was optimistic to see a light color. Is this unoaked Chardonnay from Napa? The nose of green apple confirms this. On the palate this show nice acidity with simple fruit, but it is very light, very tart, lacking in character. In fact, it has an overly bitter, green finish that starts to grate on me.
