Domaine Taupenot-Merme, Chambolle-Musigny

Opened at Softbank in HK. P&P and enjoyed. This was quite open for business, but when compared against the Rousseau CSJ 02 from earlier, was a bit short in intensity and concentration. A nice Charmes and in a nice drinking window now but nothing special. Will keep, but also won't get better with time in my opinion, so don't hesitate to drink up. Thanks to H for sharing!

A good, muscular red burg that is still burly and in need of softening, but probably a decade past its prime fruit. Better on paper than in glass.

Wow. This is my jam. From the first whiff of the glass to the last drop in the glass, it was fantastic. High toned mineral laced red fruit with equal parts fruit vs. earth. This is in an excellent drinking window. In comparison to the Cathiard NSG 2010 that came after this wine, this is the prettier more elegant wine. The Cathiard NSG is a beast that needs another 10 years in the cellar.

Opulent and rich, more red fruit than the preceding wines making it a bit less to my taste (I prefer a broader spectrum of fruit, and especially enjoy the dark fruits in balance). Best of the flight beating 95 Dugat and 96 Roty which is quite impressive given the price differential - clearly this is the value play in Charmes Chambertin. Served blind.

My wife, who truly enjoys pinot, and myself greatly enjoyed this bottle. I have one left which I am holding for 2-3 years, I think perhaps at that time this wine should be near its peak, we shall see. However, if you desire a smooth floral drinking pinot with aromas and flavor, this is your wine. Drinks very well now and I believe better in the future.

My first Burg GC and I was not let down. Serious wine of dry red fruits, spice and nearly equally serious tannin. Very complete and showing good length. Very early days at 12 years of age. The best of my 40th bday lunch drinks.

Wonderful perfumed nose. Sweet red cherries, strawberries, some blueberries, and bubblegum. Soft and elegant finish, though its lacking some depth.

Dinner at Giant Garoupa (Yuan Wei Deep-Sea Garoupa, Serangoon Road) : Very nice indeed. This was probably my favourite red wine of the night. It had a glorious nose, with soaring aromas of dark cherries and kirsch and lots of floral perfume. This was undergirded by funkier notes of wet earth and meat with a a hint of minerality running in the background. Woah - that was one showstopper of a bouquet. Complex, seductive stuff. Wonderful bouquet, spices, masculine, warm oak, ripe fruit (black cherries, sweet raspberries), iron, freshness and depth; charming but powerfully structured, still a bit young, flavoursome, good weight, lovely tannins; firm acidity carries the long finish, clean strawberry and raspberry fruit, warm and spicy. Drink 2012 - 2022.
