New OL venue try-out (Salon Privé) : Hmm a hint of pox? No - more than a hint. Interesting discussion about how premox always smells like premox - regardless of the grape. Good point well made.

BWC & Friends - Salon Privée Test Drive with Soula and Rioja (Salon Privé, St Margarets) : Sadly very sherry like on the nose. Difficult to make out much beyond.

Saturday Night hit and miss; 9/2/2023-9/3/2023 : Pale gold colour. Intense nose on opening, a hint of spice, cut grass, lemongrass. The palate is great, it’s broad there’s a ton going on but real focus and precision, lovely acidity. The flavour profile is more Rhone than Rioja but it has this tautness that is just so attractive. Over the next couple of hours it starts to loosen up a little, maybe become a bit more diffuse. Can’t tell whether this …

This is in a great place. It's still fresh but body and depth has replaced any early acidity. Peachy fruit and a pleasant warm stoniness. Savoury and drinkable, really good stuff.

I really admire Le Soula and what Gerard Gauby, Roy Richards, Mark Walford and now Wendy Wilson have achieved there. Le Soula Blanc in particular is a triumph of consistency, value and the art of the white blend. The technical sheet on th website for the 2012 is 35 % Macabeu (30 year old vineyards), 30 % Sauvignon (20 year old vineyard), 17 % Grenache blanc (15 year old vineyard), 7 % Marsanne-Roussanne (8 year old vineyards), 6 % Vermentino …

Monday Funday (Hawksmoor Air Street) : Third vintage of this i've tasted - this is closer to the Rioja meets S Rhone of the 2013 than the light florality of the 2016. The viura / macabeu is very evident and this has a sense of being close to a non oxidative rioja. It struggled to express itself when sat alongside the glorious Gravonia, and I feel this was a little unfair to the Soula, which is a lovely wine in …

Beeswax, honey, vibrant citric fruit. This is currently delicious, vibrant and in the perfect place. Weighty but fresh, this is a real gastronomic all-rounder. Perfect now, I wouldn't keep this any longer.

This is drinking beautifully. Showing development but supported by bright acidity and still vibrant fruits. Very enjoyable now with tons of weight, vibrancy and liveliness. Why wait?! Drinking so well now.

Citrus pastille with some baked orchard fruits and hints of sherry. Nicely textured with a broad yet stony palate. Interesting wine that can stand up to some challenging flavours.

Brought this to Judy's SouthWestern Reds tasting. to have after. had completely incorrect recollection. Bigged it up! Wished I'd read my previous notes. Now just as oxidised as before but much faded so rather unpleasant!

A very unusual wine, hard to describe (for me anyway). Pale Yellow color. Subtle honey and citrus (lime? grapefruit?) on the nose. Sauvignon dominates initially, with good acidity, but then wine evolves into something more complex and buttery. Considerable mouth-feel and length which ends with a hot, almost peppery, sensation. Stunning.

L10 is a blend of the 2009 and 2010 vintages with 78% Vermentino from a 16 year old vineyard plus 22% of Macabeu from a 23 year old vineyard located at an average altitude of 500 m at the foothills of the Pyrenees. Deep golden colour with a reductive nose initially turning into a distinct nose where honeyed notes meet floral scents and notes from oak in a charming way. Mid-weight, rather unfamiliar aromatics, tasted baked yet very fresh, crisp …

Decant always. Has lees, but also really benefits from the opening of the wine, which is great and probably will carry on improving over next few years The wine looks yellow colored. The legs are medium. There is moderate sediment in the bottle. It smells like lemon, melon and hay/straw. The body is medium/full. The wine has silky texture. The wine finishes long. The wine has medium acidity. The wine looks yellow colored. The legs are medium. There is moderate …

This bottle did not seem to have as much body s the previous. Still a wonderful complex nose, with marzipan and liquorice. Not as much fun as the chenins we had around it though. Don´t hold on too much longer.

RAW Fair (Truman Brewery, London) : Beautiful nose that's equal parts mineral and savoury. Very tightly wound but - like the Soula Blanc - very promising. 17/20. 2014+

Wonderful wine. Drank it over 3 days and it showed no signs of slowing down. Complex with notes of orange peel and hazelnuts and very satisfying. Can imagine this would be very good with food. Hold it and let it get better.

A quite unique wine bristling with flavors, one of which is a little dangerous. A ciderised/oxidative note appears after air or with warmth. Terrific, but treat with care and serve with food. A: light straw, no sign of maturity N: Honeyed and grass but shows that unpleasant cider note when it warms. P: Off-dry entry, medium bodied, medium-high acid. Brisk finish with lingering sweetness

Gold color, apricot on the nose. Full across the palate, gorgeous oak, perfectly ripe fruit and a lovely minerality. So much complexity and yet still balanced. Might get better but drinking so well now, not a lot of acidity in this vintage. Was best at low room temp.
