2012 Barolo/Barbaresco (Terra Rossa) : A new producer to me, whose wine showed very well. A deep, intense nose that avoided any trace of heat or thickness, rather seeming bitter and grown-up with notes of aniseed and sandalwood, and then tobacco coming through with time in the glass. Lots of sour, grippy red fruit on the palate, almost to a puckering extent, and some deeper, darker cherry, and then a really lovely silky finish. Excellent levels of acidity made for …

2012 Barolo / Barbaresco (Terra Rossa N1) : Best nose of the flight with nice evolved elements of tobacco and menthol (think you can’t buy those any more!) and dried cherry. Again good weight on the palate with some more tertiary elements. Despite the evolution in flavour the tannins more present than flight mates.

(BBR Italy 2016) :: Raspberry, rose, tar. Lifted succulent fruit and petal notes, with a solid mineral / clay backbone. A bit thin on the palate; very pronounced and chalky tannins. Wait 5+ years.

Elegant on the nose, fine fruit, floral. Quite accessible and open on the palate, a little tight towards the finish. Balanced and soft, gentle. Very good. 89-90+
