Copain, Brosseau Chardonnay, Chalone

Thought that was my last bottle, turned out I had another. Beautiful lemon and tropical fruit move smoothly into a core with chalk, salinity, minerality mixing with just a hint of raisiny tertiary elements before finishing with a nice pop of acidity. Delicious!

Last bottle is a beaut; no cork damage this time. Lemon and tropical fruit up front moving smoothly into a saline core and finishing with good lift. Shined equally well with lamb marengo last night and this morning with smoked salmon, complimenting and washing away without taking away. Yum!

Lemon and salinity with honey notes and finishing with ok acidity. I typically like California Chards in this ~10 year range and this is no exception... lively but subdued at the same time... sea notes make it a natural with seafood.

Consumed with family before dinner this evening. Tropical fruits with a hint of white pepper. Full and lush on the palate, with a moderately long finish. Drink now through 2020+.

Light gold. A: Strong tropical/pineapple fruit, white flowers, creamy and oily even on the nose. F: rich and creamy texture, a bit toasty at times, with more tropical fruit that drifts toward lemon curd. Lower acid here, and a nice complete wine. Whatever oak has mostly mellowed by now, but this doesn't need to be rushed. Seems it has plenty of life ahead.

Deep yellow color. The nose shows almond, honey, sea salt, hay, ginger, on top of apricot and lemon curd. Plump on the palate but precise and focused with fresh acidity. Oxidative elements are subtle and woven in really well, and this is a pretty, lively wine. With herbed chicken in pastry, roast asparagus Good color, light gold/yellow. Soft nose, peach, pear. Plenty of acid, citrus lemon. Medium weight, touch of apple underneath. A bit of must on the mid-palate, perhaps a bit of age showing up. Medium/short finish. Still a very good wine, but not great. Drink now if you have them.

Definitely showing some age now. Notes of lime zest, Golden delicious apple, pineapple, banana almost. Gorgeous golden yellow. The Apple dominates the palate and after 30-60 minutes of air and warming it really shows off. Cheers!

Copain Syrah Tasting (My Place - Washington, DC) : Wow, this is exceptional and surprising. Such lively aromas, no hints of oxidation or exhaustion here at all, just lemon curd and crushed limestone. Precise acidity through and though, yet the plush texture is awesome. Minerals and flowers and honeycomb accentuate the juicy lemon and yellow pear fruit. Wow, still going strong, and a wonderful showing.

Tasted as part of a Brosseau chard vertical we did with Wells @ the winery. 13.8% ABV. Light reduction in the aromatic, which blew off with some swirling and time in the glass. Bit of tropical here in the aromatic, unctuous. Beautiful texture, and like the 2009, a spicy note. Green apple pops into the finish, along with anise and a beautiful length. This 2010 is really doing well.

Popped and poured. Lemon, apple, straw, and minerals. A few tropical notes later in the evening. Good dollop of acidity, nicely integrated, and good finish. Not too austere and not too rich; nice middle-of-the-road style.

Just pulled this from the cellar and yanked the cork to try before dinner. I suspect we'll finish the bottle over the meal but for a 'open and enjoy' note, lots of apple (mainly yellow), lemon pith, touch of grapefruit, mango and pear. Really just a delicious chardonnay. Lemon and minerality point to Chablis as noted by others but the rich full flavor on the palate is the epitome of balance between the fruit and acidity and texture. I consider this a one of the best made chardonnays I have tasted (A or even A+ 94-96 if you must do Parker numbers

Lanolin, acacia, and white peach notes on the nose. Sort of Macon like nose but more intense. On taste amazing balance with the acidity playing with the fruit and mineral notes. Complex, big and round on the palate. Really nice with a mineral and citrus finish with excellent length.

Pale straw color. Nose has lemon zest, minerals, fennel, and a touch of ash. Zesty palate with meyer lemon, granny smith apple, apricot, as it warms it turns more tropical with a touch of pineapple and butterscotch. Crisp, long finish. There's definitely some detectable French oak through the midpalate, but for someone who's neither a fan of all-stainless chard nor buttery oak monsters, this walks a really nice line down the middle.

Steely green apple and honey aromas jump out of the glass. When chilled it expresses a lot of tart citrus and a hard mineral edge. As it comes to room temp it becomes creamy with honey and green apple but still that crisp chalky limestone minerality. Long mouth puckering finish. Wonderful Chard.

PopnPour, tasted over 2 hrs and day 2 -light/med gold -tiny sulfur, minerality, lemon -med acidity, fruit on the leaner citrus/mineral spectrum -probably the most Chablis-esque of any CA chardonnay I've ever tasted, quite nice now and potential for positive development

Nice bottle. Green apple, lemon, some lemon peel perhaps as there was something slightly bitter to it. Not bad, but C found slightly distracting... I barely noticed. Nice acidity to it, but still a touch of creaminess to give it some body. Definitely more our style of Chardonnay, looking forward to trying another from Copain (we're already sold on the pinots).

Copain (SF Wine Trading Company) : Medium yellow. Bright, orange peel on the nose. Medium weight but caramel and some richness on the entry. Good, bitter citrus flavors and a tart twist at the end. Certainly not your everyday California Chardonnay.

Falltacular 2013 (FMIII in the OC) : Nice color, clear and just a hint of green lurking in there. Nose is a bit of tree fruit and pear. Palate is a full dose of green and red apple with blazing dose of acid that starts mid palate and last 30 seconds. Very mouth watering, I was constantly licking my chops while sipping this wine. Loved it.

Seems a little fatter than the '09 and probably drinking a little more open earlier too. Nice green apple and what FMIII called fennel palate. A hint of oakiness that I don't recall from the '09 ( could be malo) Nice enough though with a good dose of lemon/lime acidity that grows more prominent the longer it was open.
