Cellared since 2011. Loads of tobacco, liquorice, tar, graphite, black plum and scorched earth. Well structured with plenty of hidden tannin underneath the fruit. Drink or hold for 5+ years. Best with food.

Very good. Loads of sweet dark tobacco, black fruits, vanilla, licorice, all the good stuff you expect from a Rhone. Long finish with lingering tannins and spicy&floral accents. Great deal for the price. This was a very masculine wine, about 3 standard deviations on the masculine side of the bell curve for Rhones. This is the St. Cosme style.

This was excellent, and very interesting for us as the wine is made, according to the Saint Cosme website, with 100% Sérine grapes--an old local variety of Syrah. This had stature: deep, well structured, plum, marzipan, and violet tastes. A beauty!

I decanted this bottle for 2 1/2 hours and then placed it back into the bottle for an hour of chilling. Upon tasting, it was wound up tighter than a drum; acidic and a bit Bretty, not yielding much else. We poured our glasses back into the bottle and will try again tomorrow. Rhone Valley red wines: St. Cosme (Houston, TX) : Dark purple in the glass with aromas of red berries and currants. Flavor of currants and blackberries with a clear peppery note and very acidic finish. Excellent food wine, but a bit austere on its own.

Decanted and aerated one hour before tasting. Typical dark syrah color. Reasonable nose of fruit and leather and funk. Initial taste was a bit funky and rough. Much smoother two hours later (three hours total). Good dark and blue/black fruit flavor with a floral overaly. Some mineral and acid. Wonderful, long blackberry finish. Berries and black pepper nose. In the mouth, I found it surprisingly restrained for such a ripe vintage (not near as ripe as the JL Chave recently tasted). Found very little sweetness or richness to the fruit, though it's not overly acidic either. Unremarkable finish. A nice, even wine that doesn't offend nor impress. Paired with steak and lamb chops. Maybe some additional bottle age will bring out more complexity.

Towards the end of a marathon of wine. Dark color and fruit profile, obvious pepper which led me to N. Rhone; a rounder structure where oak seemed to have softened the tannin though oak was not a descriptor; very good but a little lost in the mass of wines.

The 2009 Saint-Cosme St. Joseph has juicy core of blackberry and spices, with some hot stone, meat, floral and earth notes backing it up. The silky structure and solid tannins carry everything over nicely onto the finish. (Drink 2011 - 2019) - JD
