We were rewarded for giving this wine a few years in the cellar. Still gobs of fruit but the tannins have mellowed, making this wine a wonderful accompaniment to food such as our stuffed bell peppers. Drinking nicely now, might go a few more years but why wait?

This started out jammy but really evolved for the better throughout the night. Big, busy, jammy, New World nose is loaded with black currants, vanilla, licorice, baking spices, and dark chocolate. The palate, however, turned out to be the complete opposite. Bright, vivid, and full bodied, very savory and racy. Laser-like acidity cuts through blackberry fruit and tar-like flavors while briars and brambles invigorate the tart, spicy finish. Good food wine too.

Monster wine! Nothing petite here (yes, I know...) Big bold fruit, a dose of alcohol, and some round tannins to tie it together. Long, long finish, which you knew was coming based on the nose, before it touches your lips. Definite New World style with hints of bramble (underneath that dark fruit).

Took a long time for the cheap woody flavors to blow off, was a real turnoff. It reminded me of previous vintages of McManis PS I have had. This was much better than the '13 I had last year.

Truly amazing PS. Not terribly extracted - transparent dark purple in the glass. Wonderful PS nose of damson plums, blackcurrants, and flowers (spicy stock). A terrific blast of plums and blackcurrants in the mouth, with sweet vanilla and cocoa to top it off; it keeps building through the midpalate with more sweet cocoa, and it goes forever into the finish, with bright fruit and gentle tannins for balance. Terrific as a pop and pour.

The 2 years since my previous tasting proved beneficial. Mature tannin with mouthful of bing cherry fruit and a whiff of vanilla. Drinking very well right now.

this bottle certainly was beyond its peak despite a perfect cork. the bright fruit has given way to plume and fig. the wine still has backbone but this bottle was not powerful. Still, there is an elegance and nuance that remains charming.

Great juice! Loads of dark fruit and super complex. Nose of blackberry, blueberry, cassis, chocolate. The flavor profiles go on and on but blueberry and black raspberry, smooth oak and a long finish.

Our consistently favorite reasonably priced red wine. Pronounced sweet American oak and deep black fruit nose. Always full-bodied but very smooth and round. We've always considered it similar to Grange at a fraction of the price!

Nose: blueberry / blackberry, a little vanilla, touch of oak, a bit of dark chocolate. Very fragrant. Great nose. Palate: predominantly blueberry, touch of blackberry, still a bit of vanilla, very good length. Drier with some tannins, but a great mouth feel. Inky goodness! 91-92 pts.

Our consistently favorite red wine, and a bargain for $28, if bought right. Pronounced complex aroma of sweet American oak with black raspberry and cassis. Full-body but smooth and nicely balanced, with only light noticeable tannin. Some anise and sweetness on the long aftertaste. Always drinkable, never disappoints.

I had to try a second bottle as I remember this being better and this one is more balanced. Dust, blackberries, cherry, spice and blueberries. The palate is not as hot and is showing some wonderful spice elements. It help that I decanted this for 4 hours. It should age another five years.

Big nose of blackberries, plums, spice, pepper and forest floor. On the palate sweet fruit along with spices, pepper and wood. Medium finish and a little heat. A over the top California effort that will be a crowd pleaser but is not for those seeking balanced, low alcohol wines.

Dark and purple, like you would expect for a Petite Syrah. Still a lot of raspberry throughout the wine nose to finish. Vanilla on the nose. Very balanced and enjoyable. Would recommend this toward the end of the evening. We did not decant it and I am not really sure it needed it. Drinking very well now and should for a few more years.

Drank at Easter Dinner. Another wine that really needed to be decanted. Drank with a tasty lamb & couscous dish, with steamed asparagus. Very big and fruit forward, raspberries for days. A bit of earthiness as well, but mostly just huge raspberry fruit coming through, with a spicy finish.

smells of vanilla and caramel. very reminiscent of the Opus One of the late 90"s. some musk up front, full fruit flavors of dark fruit with a complexity I have come to expect from this extrodinary wine maker.

a 3 ounce pour as part of a tasting flight at a restaurant. a totally unfamiliar producer to me, but you could do a lot worse. the wine exhibited good structure and fruit, but lacked any real complexity.
