Charles Joguet, Chinon, Cuvee Terroir

PnP. Bright red color. Typical bell pepper with pressure treated wood. Fairly astringent. Not bad, but not my style.

Take all the positive attributes in foregoing commentaries, multiply each by a factor of 3, and ignore the doubts and any negatives—and then you have this wine as it exists at the end of 2025, nearly a decade out. PnP. Not bad, but not my style. Bell pepper, earth, and raspberries on the nose. Same on the palate with some earth/dirt. Wine is a little stringy and has some tartness. Good flavor.

Cedar, dry, wood, herb. Perhaps a bit early to drink. Beautiful herbal character. Old school Chinon. Very good.

Had alongside the 2009. Very interesting comparison. Whereas the '09 had developed immensely and is quite soft, the '16 still has a lot of freshness, green herbacity, minerality, more typical of a Loire CF. Could be kept for several years more but could also be had now.

Good straightforward well made wine. Light to medium weight with lots of Cab Franc character and a tartness that makes it good with food. It has the side of the tongue chalky mouthfeel I like in a CF. Sort of simple but balanced and I think it is well priced at $22.

Drank at AC Borgata restaurant for $52, started out too cold, why do restaurants store red wine too cold, started out weak with not much finish but as it warmed up fruit started peaking out, savory, earthy and subtle, not a great wine but enjoyable at the right temperature, Loire cabernet franc can be a good wine that is not too big, this wine was light bodied, would not drink again in a restaurant but if I could find it …

Intriguing nose of blackberries, black cherry, tomato leaf, and chocolate. Cherry and pepper on the palate lingering into the long finish. Bright and fresh with great acidity. Maybe a little too simple on the palate for a Chinon.

beautiful purity and focus

No deep analysis but quite plain. Lacked complexity and green notes.

Nose of soil and graphite. Prominent raspberry on the palate. Lots of acidity. Over night some of that soil and graphite fades. The sour red fruits become more prominent. The palate gets a bit sharper and livelier. The brighter, lighter fruit leans towards Bourgueil like expression. This is solid overall. This bottling seems to range widely over vintages. This year I don't think it's got the stuffing for any real aging. Should be fine for shorter rests no problem. It's …

Earthy nose with some rawness. Kind of a tartare like meatiness. Some salinity on the finish, medium-high acidity. Restrained fruit. This wine seems made with intention, but this wine is a little bit too green and gamey to my palate. I kept waiting for a bit of that fruit to come in and balance out the other notes, but it never did. Somewhat disappointed.

Monthly Tasting at Wine Wizards (Wine Wizards Stockton) : Light and leafy not a bad vintage but not that good either, it did not inspire me much. Have a good selection of Chinon and other CF's in my cellar, will wait for other producers or maybe a new vintage.
