12.8% abv. Great cork. Opened and initially tarry and closed, had a sip recorked and put it in fridge till the next day, I’m glad I gave it the respect it needed to decompress after those 30 yrs in bottle. Garnet colour fading to a translucent rim. Aromas of cherry, plum skins and pomegranate . The palate is medium-full with fruit still present on the redder spectrum , tannins very much mellowed with crescendo-ing acidity to a pinpoint tail. Aged …

Warmfruchtige Nase, gekochte Beeren, Gewürze, steinige Untertöne; fruchtiger Auftakt, dann mit etwas gar klebrigen Gerbstoffen, die Säure hält frisch, leider auch trocknend im Abgang.

Licorice, cherries, and bitter herbs form the character here. Medium-bodied, crisp, and chewy, the bright, red fruits in the finish are accompanied by olives and dusty chalk. Drink from 2027-2038. 88-90 Pts

En Primeur campaign for the 2024 vintage Day Five (Bordeaux) : Herbaceous green notes in charge of insubstantial red and blackberry compote, pencil shavings. And the palate is a reflection of this, tannins are slightly green but fine grained, a little lactic note on the finish. Hmm.

Fairly full bodied and round, well dosed oak, good acidity and length.

En Primeur campaign for the 2024 vintage Day one (Ulysse Cazabonne) : Pyrazine married to muted black fruits, sweet spice, a little dried woody note Quite tart on the palate, lean, green and mean. Nah.

Whereas I was able to soldier through the previous bottle, this one had no interest. The nose was hinting at suspended animation but the body declared the time of death: watery, slightly astringent and decayed. Dead. A two bottle purchase at auction, 2 duds.

Good thing, I'm old wine tolerant. This is definitely on the decline and barely hanging on. Old musky nose with dirty water and prune peaking through. On the nose alone, this was sink bound. However, there is still some red fruit, slight acidity and tannic presence moving this zombie along. I soldiered through half the bottle and opened a Raffault Picasses for the people I love.

Was worried it might be a bit passed it based on previous reviews, but still good. Almost young and luscious, but with a touch of tertiary. Held together for the whole night, so don't think there is a rush to drink based on this 1 bottle

Drunk over dinner hence short note but this was magnificent. Almost Musar levels of spicy hedonism and only 12.5% ABV. Probably at its peak but certainly not declining.

Last of six auction bottles. Fill into the neck, cork only soaked on the end. Plenty of fruit, but it was a raisiny mess (same as bottle five). Cooked, I guess. Too bad. 12.8% ABV (flawed)

Fourth of six auction bottles with one previous owner and base neck fills. Cork soaked half an inch in one spot. Best bottle yet. Nose evenly divided between elegant undergrowth and tobacco leaf notes and aged black cherry with the same on the well concentrated, silky palate. Little to no unresolved tannins in evidence. Perfect acidity. A real joy to ring in the new year with. 12.8% ABV (great; distinctly above average; distinguished/****/17.5/93)

Third from a lot of six 750ml bottles purchased at auction. Base neck fill. Cork soaked only about 5mm up. A little porty upon opening, but decanting for sediment added enough air to take care of this, and away we went. Age-appropriate bricking. Wine in excellent condition. Easily the best bottle of the three I’ve had thus far. No sign of fading, with good concentration of aged red over black fruit, leather, a little woodiness, and some sous bois. Very …

Second of six purchased at auction with base neck fills. Cork soaked one-third the way up. Minimal bricking. PnP. Undergrowth and aged black cherry on the nose and palate. A little metallic at first. Tannins completely resolved. Good acidity remaining to provide structure. With twenty minutes of air it gained cohesion but also became slightly porty. Then after being open for an hour, the maderized notes disappeared. It showed undergrowth, black plums, and red fruit on the nose and palate. …

First of six purchased at auction with base neck fills. Sound cork soaked about half an inch up in one spot. Very dark in appearance. Overly mature and metallic upon opening. Decanted a half hour, and then the wine found its legs. The overpowering undergrowth and metallic odor/taste disappeared, and it began showing plenty of aging/dried black cherry along with undergrowth on the nose and palate. It was bright and lean in an old school way (not a bad thing …

My last bottle of this. Probably at peak or heading for the other side. Still drinking nicely and similar to prior notes. Don’t be fooled by the thinness on opening, it needs lots of time in the decanter to put on weight. Decant at lunch to drink with dinner.
