Canalicchio di Sopra, Rosso di Montalcino

2009 Canalicchio di Sopra Rosso di Montalcino. Nice sweet cherry fruit and bright acidity but perhaps just a bit off due to the funky/musty nose that also held the fruit back a bit. Still enjoyable. If the mustiness is due to some heat damage, then this could be a great bottle.

Solid Rosso - kept comparing it to vino nobile di montelpulciano (Tenimenti Angelini) and it falls short, but that's slightly apples/oranges. Good sangiovese bite, nice legs, a bit astringent on the finish but not atypical.

Light red. Quite earthy, black cherry and smoked meat. Dry cherry flavours and medium weight dry finish.

Good, not great. Looking a little on the brown side given it's fairly young age. Perhaps even a little murky. Some smokey favors. It did improve with air over the evening. Would be fine with a tomato sauce.

decent Rosso, not as integrated and smooth as other '09 Rossos I have tasted, still pretty typical for Montalcino, sour cherry flavors predominate, and it has good acidity to go with pizza or a meaty pasta sauce, I would buy at $15, for the $25 I paid not great QPR...

Had this 8th AFTER a flight of 7 Italian wines from Piedmont (plus one other not in the flight) This is NOT a Piedmont. Red color with an orange edge on the rim. Nothing distinctive on the nose. First taste was meaty and made me think this would pair well with Italian food like spaghetti and meatballs. A Light to medium mouth feel, medium tannins, pretty well balanced. A somewhat perfumed bouquet with red fruits. On the palate a sweet start, fresh fruits (e.g. cherries.) Pleasant acidity and an ok wine, but not really great; certainly not compared to the Brunello's of this producer. See also the Tn's of the Brunello's.

Dark red violet color; cherry, dried cherry, with a sense of meat and smoke nose; young, tart cherry, tart plum and mineral palate with green notes; medium finish 90+ pts.
