Did an alternating Cabernet vertical flight of 2007 Charles Krug Yountville, 2008 Louis Martini Sonoma, 2009 Charles Krug Yountville & 2010 Louis Martini. Rated best to worst in order was 2007, 2009, 2010, 2008. I don’t believe any of these wines were intended to aged this long but they were in the back of my cellar and gave them a go. Surprisingly the 2007 Krug was borderline excellent and stole the show. The 2009 Krug was nice but not as …

Has been close to two years since I have enjoyed this one. This wine is at the very back side of the top of the hill. Ripe, mature, ready for action. Black cherry comprises most of the fruit notes here. But there's a little more blueberry here and more of a roasted fig and black licorice character in the middle. Finishes with integrated tannin although there is a chalkiness to the finish here. Lots of fine grit sediment even after …

I would love to serve this blind in a group of like year cabs from Napa that fetch 200+ per bottle. This wine is massive. Posted one year ago and mentioned this one didn't seem to be ready to go yet. Well, this one is CLOSER but still took a 2 day slow ox. Nose is black and blue fruit, gingerbread, licorice. The entry is similar to the nose with a crushed, gravelly note. Peppery finish. Man this one is …

Absolutely not at the end of its life. My first Krug Cab in quite a while and I'm kicking myself for waiting. Excellent full bodied Cab. Dark and opaque with no visual indication of aging; Hot nose with currant, pipe tobacco, and salted plum; excellent creamy and edgy body with flavors of dark berry, currant, cocoa, and some dirt . Very good QPR.

There are a few problems here. This one actually still shows zero signs of age. As a matter of fact, if I was blind tasted on this one I would have said this was a 2014 pre release from a Moon Mountain Vineyard producer. This has chalky and absolutely dense jam packed and thick black and blue fruits. Tasted like a Blackberry and blueberry scone with a little hint of cinnamon and truffle towards the finish. Very stiff tannin. Okay, …

Big fruit notes of Black and blue fruit, hints of graphite, leather, tobacco, cedar, spice, finishes with some velvety integrated tannins. The wine is surprising youthful, vibrant. A

This wine is a dark representation of Howell Mountain, and not anywhere near ready yet. This wine MIGHT start drinking by 2020. I popped the cork at 6PM, we enjoyed at 8PM, finished around midnight, and even at midnight this one was still developing. Cork with a lot of sediment. Pours a dark maroon into the glass. The nose is fig, plum, earth, and blackberry. Earthy. The entry of the wine is dark, almost foresty, with autumn leaves, sticks, plum, …

Last bottle of this one, still drinking okay, but not as well a few years ago when last had it, probably getting a bit more towards the end of it's window despite the vintage. If you're holding on it's probably time to pop this one open...

When I bought this at the Krug tasting room, the pourer called it "a beast". (he meant it in a good way - it's a whole lotta wine.) Several years later it's achieved some integration & balance, but it evolved in the glass during the evening and can certainly go at least 5 more years. Great inky black cherry color. Plum, blackberry, black current on the nose. Blackberry, raspberry, black current, and pepper on the palate. Really long finish, with …

Great nose, rich dark fruit and slight floral hint as well. Dark Purple, some sediment (decanted). Velvety tannings well integrated with the fruit and acidity. Wine was showing well after 45 minute decant and was the wine of the night among 06' Beringer Private Reserve and 09' Araujo Altagracia. Excellent tradional Napa Cab!

Very impressive. Dark fruit, baking spice, dark herbs, and toasty vanilla. Still seems tight at this point. Needs to decant. Long gripping and dry finish.

Earth, tobacco, coffee, currant, crushed flowers, cocoa powder, dried cherries and wood on the somewhat mature nose. The palate is mature but not senile, showing flavors of cherry, currant, dried flowers, tobacco, herbs and cocoa powder. The acidity remains moderate and the dusty tannins are moderate-low. The finish lingers softly.

Eucalyptus was the first taste. Then came the dark fruit: blackberries, blueberries. A slight hint of chocolate towards the end. There was not much of a finish as the backend just died. I feel this bottle has kind of closed up and I may have opened a bit too early. Glad I have more and will try again in a couple of years.

I get the lower scores. This won't win over with power, concentration or elegance. But I couldn't escape the intrigue of a complex briny note and a subtle fruit and dusty cocoa palate that lingered on a rich finish. It showed best after open about four hours and will likely be my dark horse of the month.

Would you pay $125 for a Charles Krug Wine? Try this and then decide. Lovely rich dark fruit on the nose, the same on the palate, but structured, intense and mouth filling. Also, long finish, available at the winery. Taste of Howell Mountain Event-a real treat. My third best wine of the day.

Brooding, cherry liqueur, wood smoke. Medium tannins are a little rough around the edges. Nice enough, but overpriced at more than 3 times retail at the River Horse Cafe in Park City, Utah. River Horse is a great restaurant but I would be more impressed with their Wine Spectator wine list award if the list was fairly priced. This wine is worth $20, not >$60.

Noise was full of saw dust and fruit. The palate was dark fruit, eucalyptus, minerality and finished with a nutty oak. The tannins were well balanced in the wine and it had very good complexity.
