This bottle had some life left, but not much.

Delicious dark blue fruit intermingled with spice and cedar notes. I absolutely love Seavey merlots.

Thanksgiving dinner, I preferred this to an '11 Donjon CdP. The big, fruity, herbal merlot brought out the savory flavors of the Herb de Provence rub on the turkey, the sweet smokiness of the sweet potatoes with roasted pecans and the balsamic/honey dressing on the brussels sprouts. Earth and balsamic aromas. Full bodied with black cherry, dried herbs, strong tannins.

Decanted at 1862. Hot, vanilla, juicy red fruit, milk chocolate, mineral and tannin. Happy in its drinking window, consistent with my previous notes, also my last bottle.

Opened to breathe for 3h. Lots of oak, cordials and hot candy spices on the nose. The palate is a burst of juicy sweet red cherries and fruit, cut back by oak, leather, chocolate, alcohol, and some tannins. This hits me as sweet as opposed to fruity after spending lots of time with Old World wines over the past two weeks. Not sure if it is sweet, or very fruity and juicy. It is well made, balanced and complex but …

Deep garnet in color with ruby edges. Nose of cherries, milk chocolate, vanilla, and hint of tobacco. Tastes of cherries, menthol, kalamata olives, and tobacco. Medium tannins, varying herbaceous flavors, and good acidity. Seems that it could improve, but tastes out of balance now. Revisit in 3-5 years.

Huge tobacco and oak nose, very aromatic. The palate is vibrant red fruit, milk chocolate, leather, oak acid and tannins. Well balanced and drinking very nicely in its window now. Superb!

well made. Red fruits with a little Merlot herbaciousness. Don't see any reason to hold the remaining bottle. Didn't improve while opened, if anything faded a bit.

Decanted at a Brazilian steakhouse in San Mateo with friends. This had cedar and cordial on the nose, the palate was a round expression of extracted red cherries, oak, hints of milk chocolate, and a lingering finish with acid and tannins. Well balanced, nice heft, and drinking extremely well with infinite steak.

This was a good merlot. I'm surprised to see that people think it needs to be drunk in 2017. We opened and decanted this wine but drank over three hours. Even at the end, I found the tannins pronounced and a bit tight. That said, I don't know this age will benefit from aging. The fruit is stillforward with a touch of jammyness but secondary nuances are also from the mid-palate through finish.

At the winery. Nice complexity on the nose; dark chocolate, red cherry intensity on the palate. Tannins are present but unobtrusive. I found this to be very approachable now, and (for me) much more interesting than the 2001 which was sampled at the same Library Tasting. I am taking some home. This should be at peak for at least the next five years.

Tasted at the winery with the vintner, along with the 2000 Merlot. This is a big complex wine, bone dry, lots of acid, red fruit, and a nice finish. Still young, it lacked a bit of the complexity of the 2000 which I preferred and is comparatively ready to drink. While the '05 could also be considered ready to drink now (with the appropriate food), it really needs 5+ more years of aging to show its full potential.

Benefits from decanting - at least an hour. Vanilla, plum, cherry. Rich and smooth, very nice finish, drank exceedingly well after overnight stoppering

Deep Full Ruby with dark plum and wet earth on the nose. A full merlot with integrated tannins that provide a firm backbone. Drinks more like a cab. Ready to drink -2020

10 years in, this merlot is pretty tasty. Dark red in glass, a ton of sediment. We aerated into a decanter, decanted for 90 minutes prior to drinking. Rich black cherries, currants; mellow acids and balanced tannins; undertones of leather. Long finish. Not a fruit forward merlot. 14.8% abv; would drink soon. Served with shepherd's pie.

Decanted x 2 hours. Moderate sediment. Moderate but enticing nose of dark fruit. Early stages of transformation and some herbaceous hint and cigar box on the palate. medium short finish overall nicely balanced. 91 for me, my better half (with more discerning palate) says 92. excellent. Drink now with decant but OK to hold.

On the lighter side. I think it has peaked and would recommend drinking now. I opened it and drank it about 3-4 hrs later. Decent fruit and finish but overall not that great of a bottle for this winery.

Dark crimson color with a richly earthy nose with hints of leather and tobacco. The palate is full of flavor - rich in cherry, licorice, cola, chocolate, Napa Valley earth, spice, and Italian herbs, vanilla and a touch of scorched oak. Very classy in style and follows a Bordeaux-like character. Really delectable and sumptuous. Finishes long with chewy tannins. Drink now until 2018.

Deep dark red center, some signs of age. Sweet, plums and bing cherries, subtle wood, maturing, fruit compote, a little vanilla. Smooth and sweet, plummy, lighter cherries, supporting tannin and acid, alcohol is present, cherry pie, blueberries, very good length of lighter red fruit. The better of the first two bottles (suspect storage with high heat and light), classic merlot, nose reminds me of good Bulgarian cab/merlot from the 80s (sounds bad, but in fact outstanding). Impressive given the worrying …

This was the WOTN in a very weak flight. At least this wine had some good texture, some flavor profiles and a nice finish. I remain and will continue to be a Seavey fan. A very much under-appreciated winery that has consistently left me pleased. Like the prior review, this wine dropped some sediment, but all in all, was better than the company in which it appeared.

Saturdays at One - Volume 27 : Tasted non blind. Dark garnet color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Nose of smoke, aspirin, white pepper, roasted meat and a mix of dark fruits. Flavors of berries and cherries. Medium acidity, firm tannins, medium body. Drink now with air or continue to hold. Probably an 89+.

Seemed closed. Had some earth, cedar and red fruit notes. Will be curious to see how the other two bottles evolve.
