Lovely wine. Cork broke a bit upon opening and wine is a bit cloudy (so, better keep it few days upwards before opening. Lovely bouquet and a great wine.

Italy ex Barolo and Brunello (Paul and Deane's Place) : Ringer in a Italian Tasting (tasted blind) Stood out vs. Italian Wines. I last tasted this in '14 and didn't like it. I just left this to assess if Parker was crazy with his drinking window (CT window was through 2015). My notes were poor but this drank much better than expected. Cinnamon, sweet cherry and plum on nose / palate. Full body, integrated tannins, low acidity and long finish. …

This has developed into a very fine wine with balanced tannins and acidity. Medium to long finish with lots of fruit on the palette.

way way too much oak and vanilla here. It is like getting hit in the face with a 2x4... maybe will get better with 10 more years who knows

Decanted for about 30 minutes. Aromas of dark fruit, however the initial flavor profile was a lot more raisiny than the aroma let on. The acidity was a bit out of balance as the primary flavors were faded. But as the wine opened in the glass, the raisin flavor faded and the earthiness and dark fruit stepped up. I have one more left, it needs a longer decant but it may not benefit with continued cellaring …

Not a lot to add to previous notes on this, other than to say I think this is not going to get any better from here: if you still have a few bottles it is probably time to drink up. I have 3 left and am going to do so, but keep one back for a few more years to test if my suspicions are correct!! Part of the fun of trying the same wine over a few years. We …

This is a big wine in every aspect, except the price. There is a lot of everything. Tannin, fruit, acidity, body alcohol, extract are abundantly present. But since all the details fit each other very well it is a balanced pleasure to drink this wine and a pleasure it is. Even so a second glass might be the last one, it is a wine that really floods the palate. I want to repeat it someday...

100% grenache, big, ripe, firm structure, 16% alcohol, yet refreshing and not heavy. Oak is fully integrated. Holding up fine and tasting great now. Decanted for a half hour and enjoyed over dinner.

100% Old vine (40-70yr) Garnacha aged 20 months in new French oak. Decanted and showing moderate sediment. Opulent aromas explode from the glass showing rich notes of fig paste, blueberry syrup, cassis, balsamic reduction, melted black licorice, candied violets, potpourri, crème anglaise, high-end chocolate truffles, leather, baking spice, sassafras, slate and earth. Rich and smooth on the palate that shows striking balance considering the ABV. Acidity is juicy and provides lift while the tannins are fine and suave at a …

The nose is hot with cherry and balsamic notes. On the palate you get a cherry jolly rancher with fig but the acidity and tannins help temper the sweetness. It's not jammy. They body is medium plus. The legs are exactly as you'd expect from a 16% ABV wine. It's a well made wine but there cherry is more intense than I'd like.

I have sat in this wine for a few years and was starting to worry that it might have peaked for my taste. Boy was I wrong. The color is still very dark. Aroma initially was predominated by tertiary notes that make you feel like you are in the cellar. Afte about 20 minutes the grape varietal came through. Not sure where this wine goes from here, but now is a great time to open this for my taste. I’d …

Interesting perspective below. This bottle had roasted fruit with heavy wood tannins. I love alto moncayo young (although it’s been a couple years) but this wine blind is Southern Rhône in a hot year with a good 15 years of age. I’m thinking 03 or 05, with a nod to 05 given the underlying structure. I won’t get to taste it tomorrow... For me, it’s past peak and starting to become disjointed but still bears the hallmarks of a well …

I concur with the recent tasters of this wine. It is drinking great right now and no where near the end of peak drinking. I'd say it showed best on day 2 and giving it air all day. The oak blows off and leaves a decadent wine with great weight and balance.

Two years since we last had a bottle of this vintage, and it seems to be aging well. Minimal tannins left, but it’s still holding together, and in fact held up against grilled steak. It’s always amazing how they can pack so much fruit, oak, and alcohol into this stuff and still end up with what I dare to say is a balanced wine.

PnP and drank with Osso Bucco. This delicious Grenache was drinking at peak. Concentrated and well integrated dark fruits, licorice and earthiness. Excellent balance with a touch of acidity. This wine was excellent with food or stand alone. Drink or hold. Unfortunately this is my last bottle of this beauty.

This bottle was completely unlike the others of this vintage I have tasted. It was clearly flawed. Wine was not integrated and was extremely cloudy and somewhat disjointed tasting. Compared to the two other times I had this same wine from another source, this bottle was lacking focus, purity and any of the drinking pleasure I experienced previously. I am suspicious of this bottle, as my friend who bought it said that he 'found a ton of it' at the …

This purchase a result of one of the many hedonist tasting events at the sadly defunct Sams - iconic wine shop of the Chicago scene until greed and private equity undid them. While I kept an '05 St Aubin a few years too long, this, purchased much earlier, is still in fine fettle. Densely extracted, upon opening a flood of chocolate notes that blow off over time. Smooth on the palate, bright berry fruit persevere, some espresso and chocolate notes.
