Second bottle in a row that was corked. What a bummer.

This competed for one of the best red wines that I drank during the whole week in Beaune. The colour here was less densely packed with purple than I would have expected (and definitely less so than the 2023 Arlaud Clos St Denis drank next to this). However, that is to say that this was entirely to my palate - fruit-forward, with lashing of blueberries and blackberries in a way that reminded my of the very top of the Syrah …

WB Wine Dinner - June 2025 (Q by Peter Chang, Bethesda, MD) : Tawny, pale and faded color. Dominant impression is of strawberries and yogurt. Lactic note continues into the palate, contributes to the fullness of the body.

A little darker and deeper than the Feuillet. Richer on the palate too. A nicely earthy quality here too. Lots here. A blend of the lighter, fragrant Feuillet and the richer Lignier Michelot. ****1/2

Deep ruby color with excellent spice aromas. First glass 15 min after open. Balanced and lovely with a long finish. Clearly Grand Cru quality but needed to open up in the glass - Zalto Burgundy. Long finish and continued to improve in the glass until it was gone much too soon. Quite the treat with our salmon dish.

This drank incredibly well straight from bottle. A fine rendition from a great vintage.

Freshly cut flower, red currants, spice, and violets. Good aromatics and clarity but very lean for a grand cru. When it was served blind to me, I thought its a 2010 village or at best prem cru. 91-92

Last of 12, pnp, perfect level, cork travelled fully, browning and pale, but for a wine clearly in decline curiously attractive, strawberry liqueur, mineral and sous bois, saved by its balance. drink up. VG+ (16.5).

This is a sneaky wine. It's not 'too' anything. Not a blockbuster, not over concentrated not too strong an impression, and yet somehow it is just beguiling. Elegant, with pronounced half-sour cherry flavors and a hint of underbrush but shows the magic of burgundy. You just keep thinking about this wine, both while you are drinking it and a day or two afterward.

Courtesy of Hoyon, double blind. This clearly has a good amount of stem on the nose, but also has clean, precise primary fruit and a good amount of power. The wine was open, the fruit was dark but exuberant and the acidity was very balanced. The fruit was definitely on the darker side; maybe a hint of blackerry? The power, acidity and openness (combined balance) made me think 2010, the fruit profile and stems made me call it Dujac's Clos …

First bottle of 6, and now I wish I had bought 60. Everything I adore about burgundy. Ethereal on the nose, weightless yet completely full and balanced in the mouth. Firmly in the earth and mushroom spectrum with high-toned sweet and sour red fruits. Still feels structured enough to go 7-8 years for well stored bottles

Deep, quite develooed colour. Nose is fantastic - red fruit mostly, but very sweet, complex and charming bouquet. On the palate the wine shows nice acidity, very good mouthfill and «punch» on the middle palate wirh an extremely long and sweet finiish. Very nice balance. This is why I love red burgundies!

Great wine. Ever so slightly corked but behind that was very pure fruit with velvety texture. Red fruit of strawberry and raspberry. Tannins well integrated. Would have gotten furth couple of points without the slight corked feature.

Aahhh.... sexy pinot! Parfymert, trevirke, spice og svak rødfrukt. Deilig åpen og tilgjengelig. Kveldens kanskje beste nese. Følger ikke helt opp i munnen - mangler litt trøkk til å være en Grand Cru 05. Men bevares, dette er nydelig vin. Relativt smooth og fresh. Går fint å åpne denne nå med mye luft. Pen lengde med fine tanniner.

11th of 12, pnp, perfect cork and level, back on form, ridiculously pale and browning, but attractive, strawberry driven bouquet and more energy and complexity than last few bottles. F (17.5).

10th of 12, pnp, travel on cork but level perfect, very lalid, almost rose, red fruit, some sous bois, tickle of volatility, lightish, attractive flavour profile and more nuance than Gouges LSG on same night, clearly on last legs on not a patch on August bottle, drink up! VG+ (16.5).

9th of 12, pnp, perfect cork and level, previous notes very good to fine from '05-'09 the seemed to go into reverse showing varnish and too much volatile acidity - mature deepish colour; attractive if not particularly pure bouquet, plum, meat, cherry, touch of spice and vanilla (slightly over oaked!); fullish bodied, nicely balanced, chewy, long, not particularly pure but more enjoyable than technical mark, fully mature but no rush either. Just about fine (17.5).

Purchased on release and stored in my passive cellar. Light red with bricking. Nice nose, flavorful palate that is in great balance right now. Some tannins, but largely integrated. I agree completely with the previous 'sensual' comment. Excellent with food, excellent alone. Does not have the depth of palate to improve dramatically. Should last quite a while given the balance.

I was met by a purely sensual and unapologetic bouquet of rich black cherry, plum, cedar, animal musk, and woodland tones with a note of dark soil. On the palate, it was finessed with caressing, silky textures giving way to red berries, inner florals, brown stem and fresh earth. It finished understated, yet elegant, as its focused red fruits and earth tones slowly faded from the palate.

DIVA Burgundy Tasting; 3/21/2012-3/22/2012 (Maison Champy - Beaune) : Wine tasting. Perfumed nose to start, very appealing with great cherry aromas. Today the black fruit flavors are a bit dense and bulky, but there is substantial extract and concentration. Long finish might not be nuanced today but shows good long-term potential.

G6 (Jock) : Ruby color. Notes of raspberries on the nose. Tastes of bing cherry, blackberry and earth. Nice depth and complexity on the finish. After a few hours in the glass this wine began to degrade a bit. My personal favorite of the Clos de la Roche wines of the evening. Drink now.
