This was like drinking a bouquet of red roses. Beautiful floral fragrances with truffles and incredible depth of flavors; moreover, the 15% abv is buried under layers of dark fruit and soft tannin. Very earthy and perfectly balanced with dried cranberry, white pepper and balsamic. Finishes with leather and spices. Perfect with pan seared breaded Veal scaloppini, topped with Prosciutto, Padano cheese and Black Truffle sauce plus a side of Zucchini. 18 years old seems to be the sweet spot …

Another stellar bottle. It’s got that great dark fruit and cola note that makes Monforte wines a real delight. Still plenty of gas left in the tank for another decade. It’s lovely now with energy, fruit, and nuance. Drink or hold…but I’d say drink!

Flawed. Stinks of old Parmesan rind. Is it volatile acid? Is it a storage problem (baught at an auction) ?? Or does this need a 10 hours decant? The above was my first impression and I rated it 84 points. It was the air! Little did I know. This is absolutely singing now! And up we go from 84 to 93-94. might be even better in few years, as tanins are still drying.

Two great wines last night; Parusso Barolo Bussia 2015 My third Bussia from Parusso, all have been very good. Wonderful structure, nice depth, complex, slightly more ripe raspberries and black cherries, but tobacco and licorice along with floral notes. Most of it is in place, homogeneous, exactly what you want from a better Barolo. Bekkers McLaren Vale - Syrah 2018 (Day 2) The 2018 Bekkers Syrah, where the wine delivered day 1 but day 2...wow. McLaren Vale is known for …

I’m working my way into Nebbiolo so this is an early attempt at a full evening with a bottle. This was recommended by a great somm at Acquerello in SF. Nose was floral, earthy like mushrooms with some cherry/blackberry. On the palate it was quite complex and long. Here mineral, slight game, cherry, floral and still not inconsiderable tannins. Overall very good.

From magnum. Popped and let sit 2 hours in the bottle, then decanted for 30min. Drank over the following 2 hours. Incredible nose of cherries and berries with a slight hint of smoke. Full bodied with just the right amount of fruit. Elegant on the back end with a long finish. Wonderfully aged Barolo

Consistent note from my previous tasting. Really great stuff. I really like the balance from Monforte baroli: deep Nebbiolo flavors and tannins with more oomph than its western neighbors but more approachable than a Serralunga. Not tertiary yet, but I bet in a couple of years, this will be like velvet with some of those wonderful, aged Nebbiolo characteristics. No rush, but no fear in opening now. Drink with an hour or two of air or hold.

Great bottle. Still has some nice Monforte structure, and all of the lovely aromatics to boot. This is about as great an example of a Bussia village level wine as you can get. Really nice from the cork pull. Slightest hint of pinkish orange on the rim. Scents roses, orange peel, cherries, and a faint hint tar. Flavors mirror the bouquet with a 30+ second finish. Bravissimo!

A lovely Friday evening with wine, friends and food 👌 Siro Pacenti BdM Vecchie Vigne 2011 Parusso Barolo Bussia 2015 Casa Castillo Pie Franco 2016 Grilled whole Entrecôte at low temperature (125-150 °C) to approx. 57-59 °. Sliced on a bed of arugula salad, small tomatoes and roasted pine nuts. On top of a spring onion sauce, for this basil potatoes (fresh potatoes). All three wines were very good, nice acidity on all three that matched the spring onion sauce …

One of the best Barolo I've ever drunk. Feels like the 2015 vintage is still available, before it enters its tunnel. Wonderful tannins and acidity, but the fruit is so clear. This wine was perfect for chanterelle pasta with truffles and cream. Drink or hold

Same great experience as my 2018.note. if anything it has improved: beautiful nose of red fruits, violet and spice. Perfect balance. Ripe black cherries and dust grippy tannins and perfect acidity. Not much eucalyptus but a nice stewed note. Fantastic.

Light menthol and strawberry on the nose. On the palate, black cherry, blackberry, currant, and notes of menthol, strawberry, and a slightly medicinal spiciness on the medium to long finish, with moderate tannins and strong acidity. This seems to be early in its drinking window - the Cellartracker drinking window is both too early and too short. This is excellent, and it was a good value at a little over $60; unfortunately the price has increased significantly over the past …

2015 Barolo Seminar- Festa dal Barolo Black olive, darker nebbiolo fruit, tar, wood, and stems on the nose. Balsamic and medicinal note mixed with wood gone awry. Firm drying tannins that seemed out of balance. Disjointed. Not a fan.

Here I found a dark, rich, earthy and layered display, leading off with ripe, crushed strawberry--stems, soil and all--then sweet florals, spiced-orange, moist undergrowth, olive, and minerals. On the palate, I found fleshy, weighty textures, yet framed by lifting acids, as a mix of tart red berries, savory herbs and a twang of green bitters clenched the senses. The finish was long and structured, with grippy tannins saturating the palate, offset by cleansing acidity, as pretty inner florals and wild …

"2015 Barolo…The Bigger Picture" Tasting at La Festa del Barolo (The Pool and The Grill in the Seagram Building, NYC) : [Blended from two parcels in Bussia, one of which is called "vigna Rocche". 100% whole cluster.] Loads of sweet chocolate in the nose. Rich and spicy in the mouth with loads of vanilla and chocolate and a hint of red fruit. Heavily over-oaked. Not my style.

Lovely wine. Very fresh and vibrant. All the scents and flavors of a classic Barolo but with tannins that are polished and don’t show any of typical rusticity that I associate with old school Barolo. This feels a bit more shut down than it did a few months ago, but it is definitely drinking well. Maybe it’s going to start developing more tertiary nuances?

The nose was wild and exotic, yet still coloring within the lines of Nebbiolo purity and benchmark Barolo. Here I found crushed strawberries and sweet roses, offsetting notes of tobacco, lavender, crushed stone minerality, dark earth and savory spice. On the palate, I found silky, enveloping textures hosting masses of tart cherry fruit, as a mix of spice, minerals and zesty acids saturated the senses, while firming tannin mounted with each sip. The finish was long and structured, resonating on …

Decanted around 4pm and tasted through about 9pm. It is translucent, medium to dark garnet. The nose has vanilla, spices, menthol, ripe red berries, cedar and licorice. On the palate it is lush and plush with a little chalky tannin and moderate acidity. There is a black raspberry jam feel to it after a couple hours in the mid palate and overall it is rich and chewy. Decanted three hours and drank with osso bucco. Violet, strong tannins, lavendar, just the right tingle of acidity. A delicious wine. Feminine and lean, not a red meat barolo but damn good with our rich but lean meal. drinking well in February 2018 but there's plenty of life left.

Love this maker, and loved the 2007 last night. Always punches above the weight. My only complaint is it was a bit oaky in the beginning, as it followed a very good Chianti, but other than that it was fantastic. The wine is on the heavy side for a Barolo, but it is in a great spot of its life. It displays that 2007 lushness, under a profound bouquet of tar with some violets. Its packed full of fruit (a …

Jay's Big Bottle Extravaganza (Jay's Home - Martinsville, New Jersey) : From a 3L, first experience with this producer. Dark garnet color. Nose of dark fruits and floral notes. Palate was black cherry, baking spices. Seemed like it may have been a bit closed (not sure how long this one was open). I suspect this needs a little more cellar time and a long decant at this time to really show. Nice core fruit.

Solid core of fruit is still pretty tightly wound up inside the tannins. The community drink date of 2015 seems too early, as the expressiveness in this 2008 Barolo has a lot of runway ahead to evolve. Wait until 2019-2021 before trying again.

Medium translucent garnet. Rose petals, cherry, earthy mushroom and some anise on the bouquet. Relatively soft and luscious for a 9 year old Barolo. Young looking and tasting yet tannins pretty much integrated. Low to moderate acidity. Fairly deep and layered flavors of vanilla, roses and cherry with a little bittersweet chocolate on the finish. Drinking great with mushroom ravioli with a ricotta sauce and shaved white truffle. Near peak but good for up to 5 years or so in …

A rock sold effort by an often overlooked producer. Still very youthful and a touch green, however there was plenty of the roundness and sweet almost lush fruit that made drinking the Barolo perfect with the pasta with tomatoes and veal A gorgeous harmony of flavors, with the right amount of acidity. For the price it was well worth it.

Tuesday Night Double Blind $40+ (Bin 75) : Dark core with some clarity, dull crimson rim; strong oak right off the bat, big, green notes, cigar, licorice, iron, nutty, modern Italian; firm tannin, oak tannin, modern; unnecessary flashy style because the wine has good substance and still have to appreciate that.

Lovely floral nose with violets, sweet red fruit, blackcurrants, cinnamon, pepper and bayleaf. Getting better and better every time you try it. Start and mid palate is same as nose but after few seconds there are the rough and young tannins if this great wine. They need time to get fully integrated but I've no doubt that this one got a great future ahead. Now 91 but definate a possible 93-95

Nebbiolo Prima (day 4) #250. Firmly in the modernly-styled camp, this offers up ripe red fruits, sweet resin and red floral notes. On the palate, generous and balanced, but seems more produced than grown. Finish leaves me wanting more, something's missing. Drink thru 2025. recommended https://italianwine.blog/
