Solid if un remarkable Etna. Plays on higher tones and skips the volcanic depths and funk. Nice but ends up a bit drone with no harmonies.

Retail $35. Gambero Rosso 2. Under cork. 100% Nerello Mascalese from near century-old vines in volcanic soils at nearly 3000 feet of elevation. Whoa. I was lucky enough to taste a previous iteration of this wine among the vines with the winemaker on a gorgeous day in Sicily. Yeah. Whoa. Many a wine writer claims that what happens outside of the bottle should not influence what you think of what is actually *in* the bottle. Bull. Sheet. OK, well, partially. …

Stemmy herbal sous Bois and soil on the nose. A bit heady which detracts; sweet entry. Seems a bit bombastic and not a pleasure to drink. Tangy in an unpleasant way.

Very good. Fresh, elegantly balanced, with pure, transparent typicity of grape, and place. Shows structure, yet can be enjoyed now with a bit of air. A touch of savory, and clean soil notes add a lovely element. Drink thru 2029. highly recommended https://www.ItalianWine.blog

Tart red berry, ash, and mineral flavor with plentiful tannins. Paired well with wood fired oven foods. Solid structure and acidity.

Quite fruity and a bit hot the first two days open. On the third day became dryer and softer but less complex.

After two hours of time to breath, this bottle showed dried cherries, dusty potpourri, undergrowth and cloak of dark toasty oak on the nose. On the palate, I found sour cherry flavors with tobacco, cedar and allspice on a medium bodied frame but with velvety texture, which led to a sour berry, tannic finish. Although I don't 100% agree with the $30 price, I'm still interested to see what it will drink like in another three to four years.
