This is a typical Eisele vineyard wine one that is 100% Syrah. The aromas of black fruit combined with spice (clove) and an earthiness arise. The flavors of blackberry, clove, and minerality. The full body silky texture with just a hint of acidity and the polished tannins make this a very good wine. The wine has some distance to go (i probably opened this bottle too soon - a year after my previous - and still not at its "polished" …

I am admitting that I am writing this about 3 days AFTER consuming the wine, not good. However, the aromas and flavors of this wine returned when I started to post this comment, which to me indicates a memorable wine. The aromas of dark fruit (blackberry combined with a boysenberry) arise from the bottle along with a slight floral. The flavors were again a combination of the two fruits with a slight minerality. The mellow palate from the laid down …

Oh man, this is something really special. For quality Syrah such as this to come from America, let alone the sticks of Sonoma at 1800 feet above sea level over Lake Sonoma: Wow. I bought these bottles directly from the tasting room in Healdsburg, of course which is no longer there because after the fires they closed up shop. So, this is very much a unicorn! At this stage this is very much perfect! When I tasted I knew these …

Just beginning to get to a really good place. This was my 3rd bottle (first was March 2018, second was August 2020) and this was the first that I really really enjoyed. That said, it was much better on day 3 than on day 1 (with VacuVin and air in between). I'll wait another 1-1.5 years before opening another, but I'm finally confident this will come around, whereas the 2013 seems seems permanently stuck in purgatory.

Really enjoyable Syrah from the Yorkville Highlands. Nose of blackberry and spices. TRt blackberry on the palate with some pepper and smoke. Nice fruit on the finish. I’d say this one is medium weight. I’d also say that this one has 2-3 years left of proper storage. A few reviewers remarked that they detected Brett, which I assume meant the bad kind of Brett that brings barnyard, manure and other nasty smells. I didn’t get that at all, so maybe …

Cool climate Syrah (with 2% Petit Sirah) from a small family winery in Mendocino. Spent 21 months in barrel. Gave 2.5h air. Medium garnet color. Aromas of plum, oak, forest floor, clove. Medium-full body, velvety texture. Assertive dark fruit on the palate, slightly overwhelmed initially by oakiness and stalky tannins in the finish. Both resolve somewhat with time in glass, so this may improve with time in the cellar or a longer decant. Decent, but feels a bit overworked.

Friendsgiving Dinner (Riverwoods, IL) : Perhaps in an odd phase, but I found this very ungiving and lacking the generosity I expected.

Five hour decant. Dark purple color. Spent campfire and boysenberry on the fragrant nose. Smooth palate with nice acidity. Rounded tannins on medium finish. Very nice young Syrah.
