Drunk over two days. Very solid, Merlot-influenced nose, more on the damson, ripe plum, and cedarwood than the classic sour and bitter cherry of Sangiovese. Nevertheless displays a clear, sweet, balsamic herbaceous element, together with some polished wood, and greengage. Firm tannins on the palate, but the new wood is fully metabolised. Appearance: Bright and clear, it has deep ruby color, with fading rims and legs. Nose: Clean, with medium (+) intensity aromas of black fruit such as plum and blackberry, dried fruit of prune and fig, mineral notes of earthy, maturity notes of savory, sweet spice of clove, floral note of violet, oak notes of cedar. Subdued nose, some raspberry on the palate, aggressive tannins, overall disappointing. Perhaps a bad phase right now. Doesn't live up to its high scores at the moment, and a step compared to earlier vintages.
