Domaine / Maison Vincent Girardin Meursault 1er Cru Les Genevrières

Super tasty after 12 years or so in the bottle. Well integrated flavors of roasted nuts, baked apples and a slight hint of bitter at the end. Probably not going to last much longer at this level.

2004 vintage

Popped and poured. Not sure what the premox rate on these is but this bottle was a stellar example of White Burgundy that is just hitting its stride in early maturity. The color is dark yellow a few shades shy of gold. The wine is slightly oily on the palate yet still feels weightless. The palate reeks of stone fruit, honeycomb, and mineral. Correct bottles should easily go 10 more years.

More mature than the Bouchard same year and soil. More orchard fruits and less acidity with some bruised apple, and some cooler herbal notes on the back end. I liked it quite a bit and was pleasantly surprised when it was unveiled. At peak and I doubt it will improve. 92pts

I quite liked this wine. Complex aromas of citrus, apple and pear. Great balance and length. Very enjoyable now...and I would drink up.

Begins with lots of acidity and grapefruit/tropical fruit flavors, and a nice finish. After an hour, it shows a buttery flavor with wonderful texture, and an incredible finish. We paired it with sauteed chicken and sauce, with quinoa, and the wine came alive with food.

This bottle was mildly corked. Showing great lemon curd color, clear and still vibrant. Unfortunately, there as a slight layer of cardboard dust that layered the luscious apple and lemon fruit, distracting my senses from really digging this wine.

Very good. Typical lemon cream and hazelenut characteristics coupled to a nice richness balanced out by good acidity and slight grapefruity bitterness. It was a touch too reserved and elegant for my duff palate but was very enjoyable. Curiously this was better on the second day.

Solid Meursault, still young and lively, but a bit one-dimensional. Intense lemon juice aromas and flavors, shaded by hints of vanillin and marzipan. Wait a while longer, maybe 2014.

Mature. Nutty, some but not so much citrus. Ripe tropical fruit. Ripe. Ready. Very nice nose - the nicest part of the wine. Nice length - the second nicest part. Mature, slightly long-in-the-tooth mouth - not as nice.

flowers and ripe citrus nose. Big rich and extracted flavors with good acidity and length. Lots of citrus and lemon with tangerine, pear, stone fruit. Nice finish. A nice fat and rich meursault, no ox, low oak, and no herbal notes.

Medium to full bodied bodied, classiic meursault. Slightly bitter when first tasted, but smooothed out after 30-60 minutes in the bottle and was firm and well balanced. Should last to 2013-2014. Recommend short decant or 60 minutes in bottle if drinking now.

Wonderful. Spiced apples and pears, tangerine, nuts, nutmeg, bread, stones, white tea, with plenty of citrus on the long, intense finish. Fat and chewy, but with energizing, mouth-watering acidity. This is the balance I crave (and so often find missing) in white burgundy. Thumbs up for '04. Drinking extremely well right now.

No detailed notes. This is drinking very well, more lush than my last outing in '08. Great pairing with G's chicken and lemon sauce dish.

A bottle that was hidden at the cabin. Spicy heavy fruit on the nose. Medium heavy chardonnay on the palate, with a hint of grassiness. While it's not lush or creamy, the finish is extremely long with a nice oakiness in the background.

Wonderful combination of tangerine, hazelnuts, pineapple, and stones. This has a dollop of sweetness through the mid-palate but then gets juicier as the finish builds before fading symmetrically and lingering for a long time. Oak spice is not overbearing. A stylish, fresh wine with energy I could enjoy repeatedly.

initially fat with good fruit and minerals. Firmed up somewhat in the glass and was a notch better than when first opened.

I don't buy enough of Girardin's wines. Quality for the money seems to always be high and I flat out like their wines. This opened with a nose of tropical fruits. The first sips showed the acidity which characterizes the vintage, but after 1/2 hour the wine became rounder and fuller in the mouth. The group moved on to reds but I drained this bottle. $50 and I'm buying more.

2004 Vincent Girardin Tasting (Vino Vino Wine in Palo Alto) : Fruity nose, nice flavor throuhout. Sharp finish, then smoothes out some. My favorite so far on the second pass. Still has fruit and acid, but very smooth now. Full. (o then +++)

2004 Vincent Girardin Tasting (Vino Vino Wine in Palo Alto) : Really rough finish. Muted nose but thicker, heavier, more oak flavors. This got better. Still a lot of oak, but a nice, clean finish now. Buutery, oaky, brightly acidic, if not much bright fruit. (-- then o)
