Yowza. Quite the yin/yang. Nose was awful. Smelled like a bowl of olives. Like the dirtiest martini you’ve ever seen. Like a total disaster. 🫒🍸🫒🍸Tasted great, though! If you just inhale, the palate was rich and full of caramel, honey, and floral notes. Weird experience but glass it wasn’t an absolute travesty.

Perfect condition. Nice golden color, clear, with hint of oxidation nose and full of honey, yellow apple and quince flavor. Mid sweet, high acidity, long finish and continously evolving within 5 hours.

Needed 1 hour to open. Pretty marzipan on the nose. Nice mouthfeel with honey and a touch of creme brule. Still decent acid holding it together. 90 points

Second bottle of 89 CdL Paon label I've had in a few weeks. This one was much much better. Tremendously balanced graceful apricot, honey, white peach, minerality, acidity-- it was a beautiful demisec dessert wine unto itself.

apricot, honeysuckle and marzipan in the nose. Nicely balanced with good acidity and medium weight . Great match with seared foie gras with a port reduction and braised cherries

Found some more and opened another yesterday. This one was not as good. A little flabby. 85 points.

A graceful wine. Lemon custard and white fruits. Fruit and acid are nicely balanced.

I bought this wine recently on sale for $10 (I've seen SRP's of $45 for this wine). I was not sure of the storage but thought it was worth a shot at that price since 1989 was an excellent year in the Loire Valley and Baumard is a top producer. I was annxious to see how this 17 year old CdL was holding up to get a gauge on the few bottles of 2002 Phillippe Delesvaux Coteaux du Layon St. …
