Pierre-Bise, Anjou, Quarts Chaume

Very dark amber, unctuous honey and apricot notes.

1997 vintage

From a 5 star Michael Broadbent vintage, and one of the top three Quarts de Chaume producers, this as other notes suggest is mahogany coloured and luscious. I wonder how well this 50cl had been stored as it was perhaps less incisive than I'd hoped and probably at its peak. Delicious of course but not immortal on this showing.

Lush and honeyed. Nice tropicals.

Colour of used motoroil, amber with brown tint. Bergamot, acacia honey, brown sugar, later oranges in the finish. Long finish, though it is light on its feed. Quite nuanced and complex. If perfectly cellared since release this should age well for another two to three decades. -2050, 5/14/19/10. Extraordinary and better than most sweet wines I had from Huet.

Pours bronze in glass. Sweet honey on nose and palate. Balanced, not cloying, still fresh at almost 25 years. Luscious.

Double Blind Virtual tasting (Chicagoland IL) : Double blind. I thought this obviously (!) Sauternes with dried apricot, lots of energy and sneaky good length. Good+ now, possible (?) upside.

Thick and viscous. Mahogany color. Lots of botrytis on nose. But not on honeyed palate. Tastes like a cross between mature sauternes and sweet German riesling. Integrated acidity keeps this balanced and lively.

Peach Farm. Darkening with age. Sweet and Luscious. Ripe yellow fruits and honey and a bit of brown spices. Acidity big enough to balance the big RS. Seems like a good time to drink it.

Deep amber color. Turkish apricot, brown sugar, caramel, pungently spicy, unctuous, and incredibly long with good acidity. This synergized nicely with a variety of funky cheeses for dessert.

Amazing smooth notes of bitter orange. Still got acidity after all these years. Very nice smooth and rich core with great complexity.

Didnt decant so that might be the reason why my TNs vary significantly from the others here. I found the wine one dimensional, it was sweet with honey, butterscotch and caramel on the nose but it lacks any kind of acidity. Disappointing

Decanted for 1 hour, consumed over 6 hours. This will appeal to those who put a premium on weight-in-the-glass over aromatic intensity & complexity. Very concentrated and nicely balanced juice that does very well on its own and will stand up fantastically to almost any rich dessert you could throw at it. Average+ intensity on the nose, but what is there is nicely candied apricot with some simple background leather & mineral notes to give it some average to above-average …

Dried apricot, mango, orange, figs, oriental spices, ginger, smoke, peppermint. Really complex aromatics. Medium plus body, very well balanced. Sweetness is not dominant, acidity is very fine. Flavours are not overwhelming, but has enough depth, length, the complexity is outstanding. Spending the more time with it, more nice details can be revealed.Polished surfaces, really elegant sweet wine.

Light and simple,fresh. Drinks well now but can live for a long while still.

Deep gold in the glass with a stunning, complex nose showing flavours of caramel, apricots, citrus and floral notes. Palate is rich and slightly viscous, layered with caramel, honey, dried apricot, peach, pear and more white fruits. This has incredibly sweetness without ever being over the top or feeling too concentrated. Might have been even better with a bit more acidity, but it's still an amazing wine.

Now this is some tasty stuff. Amber-apricot color in the glass, thick but not viscous, still light on its feet and dancing with good acid balance and only 12% alcohol. Heady nose of flowers, honey, apricots, and cumquats and citrus. Lovely mouthfeel that is not as heavy and one dimensional as so many dessert wines. My wife looked at me and asked: how many more of these do we have in the cellar? Only one, unfortunately. Great stuff.
