Very beautiful wine. Really pretty and elegant. Very much white Burgundy like. Lovely florals on the nose and palate. Soft and lush.

Far too young at present, this is quite austere with only the faintest hints of preserved lemon. Remarkble texture and interesting non-fruit phenolics. You can tell this will turn into the nutty manadarin rind glory that old Viura tranforms into. Wait a few years before contemplating it.

Mature Rioja tasting at The Sampler (The Sampler, South Kensington) : Rounding out to a creamy fullness. Less bright and zippy than previously and heading towards being a good food wine. ***

Similar to when last tasted at the bodega last November. Fragrant, floral, good minerality and a lighter zippier streak. Starting todevelop on the finish and hint at Pinot gris or even Gewurtz (hope this fades quickly!)in a faintly metalic, hard-to-describe way. ***

Abel Mendoza (Rioja) : 40% Malvasia with 15% each of Torrontes, Viura, Garnacha Blanca and Tempranillo Blanco. More floral on the nose. Rounded with balancing zing. Really quite complex. Finishes positively with a floral, ripe, almost honeyed fruit. very aromatic. Top ***
