I am a fan of Islay whisky with its iodine and peaty notes but do understand that some may not like it; indeed my wife complains about the taste of brands like Bowmore and Laphroaig being fishy. I think that Islay's detractors might be convinced by this Ardbeg. Trace elements of iodine and peat are there but are integrated into a whole which shows a lot of complexity and finesse with amongst other things touches of honey and nuts and …

Beautiful scotch. Saline, honeyed peat, blooming heather, and a hint of nuttiness.

Nose - Peat, coal, light floral notes, black pepper, chili spice. Palate - Surprisingly mellow and almost mute at first, then a big punch of smoke and spice. Finish - Smoke and pepper.

Pepper, raisin, brown sugar, and a sweet smoke. Doesn't hide it's strength...hits your palate like a truck. Leaves behind a sooty, charred aftertaste. Flavors are great and deep.

Nose: Campfire, bacon fat, sea brine, seaweed – bacon wrapped scallops! Palate: Smoky, salty, gravel, peppery, herbal and medicinal, iodine, spicy but smooth. Finish: Coals, spicy, lingering flavors from the palate.

Nice floral and fruity aromas, along with the peat. Flavor is more peat dominated, with salty and earthy notes.

Sweeter than laphroaig, less iodine character, higher alcohol, a bit richer. Great aroma. Tarry. Great value.

A lot of peat in the bouquet and on the palate. Smoke and medicine. Special Whisky.

Light orange/copper colour with a delicate appearance. Nose: Dried apricot, tobacoe, Taste: Full bodied, sweet/fruity, spicy side reveals itself after, intense and a very complex Whisky worth tasting. Isn't the cheapest whisky I have bought so far :-) but really worth every cent. :-)) Smoky (1-6) 2/4 Spicy(1-6) 2/5 Body (1-6) 4/5 Intensity(1-6) 5/5 Fruity(1-6) 5/5 Complex(1-6) 5/6

Old Chatham Scotch tasting. The most peet laden tasting of the bunch. Its aroma. its mouthfell and its flavors sing of the peety water. Great unique flavors classic to Islay.

Standard expression single malts (My place, Kent Street) : Subtly smoky seaside, feels rainy and cold, smells like Islay itself, the nose transports me rather impressively

Beats the Jura Prophecy for a peaty malt, offering a longer finish with more bite.

A single malt scotch tasting (Charlie's (In the Wood's of Newbury)) : A medium amount of peat with some smoke on the nose. There is some heat on the nose. On the palate, much smoother. It seems to trade less complexity for smoothness which for me is just fine. There is some flavor though. 3.75/5

Thanks to the guys at Craft Room, Zagreb! Now this is a force to be reckoned with, a sweet, smokey, very very thick brute with a heart of gold that doesn't bother to hide its strength, but integrates it well, to its vanilla (and so on) flavors. This is a sipper and an experience, no doubt about it.
Taster #9318 · Jun 20, 2015
Wow, intense, surprised alcohol is so high, holds it well, cleaner than the Uigedail and more precise, very different.

Pale straw color. Aroma: smoke-y, brine-y, vanilla, gunpowder, bandages, plastics; quite herbaceous and assertively medicinal . On arrival, a sharp and immediate spirit-y whiskey, straightforwardly a well-peated one. Flavor includes: vanilla, burnt wood and barley, gentian, lemon, green bell pepper, shellfish shell and salts. Outstanding stuff, on a chilly evening.

I didn’t like Uigeadail, but I like this a lot. There is a real concentration of flavors with depth as opposed to Uigeadail’s raw and brute force power. Savory toffee, miso paste, sweet and sour pork, fresh herbs, and stinky cheese are all wrapped in an intense peatiness. It kind of tastes like food. I would agree with 95 points.

I have been impressed by the Ardbeg Uigeadail bottling, so I bought the Corryvreckan. Wow, this is good. The aromas and flavors of smoky peat, roasted grain, heather, iodine, and oak work beautifully together. This is a memorable spirit and an excellent value.

On 12/20/2014 I am directly comparing this to the Laphroaig 10 tasting in turns as I write this. Glass: not amber but golden (this is a + !), perhaps like a Chardonnay, as befits a 10 y.o. non-colored Whisky which I think it is. Nose: Light and clear, citrusy and with vanilla, but somewhat shy. The Laphroaig 10 is a bit oakier, drier and has more character, fullness and weight on the nose. But here with the Ardbeg you might …

I like this more than the Uig, it's got a little more barrel on it and the peat has more authority.

Ardbeg 10 year old is a very high quality single malt that I enjoyed immensely. It actually pairs well with some cheeses, shellfish, and even some desserts. The peat is upfront but the citris notes come thru too.

I love all the Ardbegs. This one is the least complex, but is big in flavor. You really want to gulp this down. It also, like all it's siblings, is perfectly balanced. That craftsmanship is what sets Ardbeg apart from all other distilleries in Scotland.

Disclaimer! I am an Ardbeg freak! 10 year old, Uigadall, Airigh Nan Beist! They're as good as Scotch gets! Corryveckian is right there with the others. Yes, there's a lot of peat, but it's balanced with a sweet lightness, the integrates into and compliments the smoke. It is so complex that if it were a wine it would be Lafite or Musingny! A drop of water into the glass makes the flavors expload and fill the room. Very, very long …

I could not help but love this is, an exceptional bit of stuff. There is an overwhelming tide of smokiness and peat, which really draws one in to the drink. The drink is a mouthful, and the finish never really ends. An incredibly enjoyable bounty of flavors in the sip, smoke, salt, and almost the essence of bacon grease. It's 114 proof, and I'm hard-pressed to believe it because it's so smooth and buttery.
