An orphan bottle from an auction purchase many years ago and forgotten. Never has a 21 year old Barbera. Did not decant as thought it might fall apart. Cork perfect. No bricking at all. Nice nose of gentile stewed fruits, brown sugar and roasted bell peppers. Veruy little tannin left which is interesting for this grape. I think that it probably needed a bit more to keep it exciting and what you might expect from a Barbera. Went well with …

Un beau nez de musc, de cannelle, de cuir et d'écorce d'orange. Une bouche crémeuse, longue avec les même saveurs de cannelle et de cuir. très bon.

Blind.Faith ‘Badass Barbera’ tasting. Wine 8 Tasted blind. Much darker and more purple than the other wines in the tasting. Lovely nose, dominated by cherry but a celery and tomato juice character comes through with time in the glass. It’s quite big and toasty on the palate, creamy texture with a nice depth of fruit. Big toasty finish. Very good but felt very different from the other wines.

Wonderfully acidic, like a cherry warhead, medium body, smooth and surprisingly long finish. Pairs wonderfully with New Years’ collard greens

Has a touch of a medicinal character to it. Structured, second stop of the day, Hmm... it seems just a little bit too medicinal band aid. Too bad, they're offering a hot price.

Medium ruby with a rosy pink hue. Pink floral aromas, with tart sour cherry. Tart acids, aour cherry flavours and florals. Medium finish, and fairly straightforward

Ripe Black Cherries, raspberries, red plums. Vanilla, tobacco, espresso, fresh herbs chocolate. Feels oakier on the first few sips than it really is. And, despite the oak, the acidity is pretty lively. This is a well balanced Nizza that will benefit from a few more years in the bottle.

Chocolate covered black raspberry, spice and minerals on the nose with a touch of gamey-ness. Fleshy and fruit-driven on the palate, but should pair nicely with food, (would go well with a bolognese). Very tasty wine. I have not had a barbera d'asti in a long time and this was a nice change of pace.

Nose was immediately open with black fruit notes and a touch of floral. Started out right and restrictive by after 30mins of air the fruit cane forward and it was much more round and fruit forward then most classic barolos. Had half the btl over an 1.5hrs and it was still getting better

Showing beautifully. Largely consistent with previous note, a slightly rustic powerhouse of a wine. I did not feel as if this fell off at all over the evening, though it wasn't really given more than 2-3 hours. Delicious Italian accompaniment to dinner. Drinking well now, in such a great place, not sure how much longer I'd let this linger.

This wine was either corked or over the hill. What a shame. This was fantastic in its prime. That said, it's still an 85 even with the issues.

A deep, dark ruby in color, this wine has a cherry colored watery rim and a pronounced nose. After a two hour open - saddle leather, cherry, ripe plum, and a slightly sweet floral note is easily evidenced over the rim of the glass. An initially rough, and somewhat soft, entry onto the palate has smoothed out and firmed up, black cherry, plum skin, cinnamon stick flow onto the palate with medium plus acidity, while tobacco tinged cedar notes follow …

Wow! The best Barbera I have had to date. Great blue and red fruits on the nose and taste. Good '07 color. Nice 3% milk mouth weight. Long 50+ second finish. A meal unto itself. Easily can cellar another 4 yrs without losing anything, I suspect. 91 pts.

Purple with some bricking. Darker in colour then I was expecting. Aromas of dark fruits, spices, vanilla, tar and smokiness. Flavours of dark fruits, a bit thicker in texture. Nice acidity. Very tasty. Slightly puckering tannins. Very nice wine. 90 points.

Not very aromatic but good acidity and minerality as well as enough fruit to wrap around them. Medium weight on the palate with fair length and finish. Mildly hot with introduction of the food.

Dark fruits, thyme, and a whiff of alcohol on the nose. Earth, dark fruits, and a touch of sweetness on the palate. I always enjoy this wine and this bottle is no exception. Not as good as the 2001, but a great bottle nonetheless.

The Wines of Kobrand (Horizon Conference Room) : Richer, meatier nose, with some minerals. A slight saline quality. Dense. More modern in style. I'd like just a splash more acidity to brighten it up. 89-90

This was really good from the start and changed a bit over the evening. My rating fluctuated from 90 to 92, but ultimately settled in firmly at 91. Really good color, fruit and length. Probably the best Italian Barbera I have had (admittedly most of the ones I have had cost less than this one. Still - I would re-buy at $25 or so (I actually paid about $22).

Nose of dark fruits and leather. Dark fruits and smoke on the palate. Nice acidity with just a tad too much alcohol (until it has some time to breathe). This is a wonderful wine and even at $40 is one I'd consider a great value. A hidden gem, although I hate to hype it too much and boost the price.

Deep, dark color and wonderful nose of dark berry with a hint of cigar box and smoke followed consistently on the palate and finished very well. Not quite as sweet as some Italians, but nicely balanced. Needed to settled down for an hour or so to really show itself, but ultimately very, very good. Buy more!

Aromas of cured meats give way to notes of red and black berries, licorice, wood smoke, and dark chocolate. In spite of the depth of flavor, the wine just dances on your tongue. An outstanding Barbera! 91-92 points.
