Nice fruit, acidity and texture. Very well made, seemed less austere than the 2016 drank last year. Great with lasagna.

👀 Fairly dark color 👃 Great aromatic intensity with ripe cherry, a meaty edge and orange peel 👅 Very satisfying on the palate, full but never heavy, with spot-on balance 🏁 Long, clean finish that keeps things fresh and inviting

Garnet red. Pnp. Very kirsch and cherry nose, bitter orange, alcoholic and powerful, sprinkle of spicy black pepper. Very boozy and powerful. Taste is equally powerful and kirsch like, the tannins are very strong and need to refine. With more air smoky notes waft across the nose and the palate has tightened up. Booziness and kirsch has gone, and much more black fruit, smoky swirls and pique from the young tannins. Very good now and can see this improving markedly …

Medium ruby appearance. Medium intensity nose of red cherry, red plum, dried herbs, liquorice, black plum, sweet spice. Slight tertiary aromas of leather and forest floor which are far from fully developed. High acid, medium+ dusty tannin, high alcohol, full body, medium+ flavour intensity, medium+ finish bordering on long with a slight saline and crushed rock character on the finish. Very good quality. This is an interesting combination of rusticity and power - complex, full of character, and intense. Still …

This is an excellent Chianti and drinking well now. Rich but balanced, with dried red fruits, leather and moderate tannins. Drink now and easily for the next 5+ years.

Opened against better judgement. I had the 2015 vintage just a couple of weeks ago, so I expected it to be a bit too early for this vintage. With food it was very enjoyable, but on its own the tannins were more noticeable - although I wouldn’t describe this as a tannic beast - and the nose didn’t show much at all. Lush, red and black fruits dominated the palate and the acidity was medium minus, which may indicate a …

Deep dark red, almost purple in color. On the nose there are typical aromas of cherries, red berries (strawberries?) and something floral. Feels surprisingly accessible considering how young it is, the tannins and oak notes are there but everything is in balance. On the palate there is cherry and this is just as good as Fontodi usually is, long and relatively soft. Highly recommended. Paired perfectly with potato pizza with rosemary and caramelized onions.

3rd Friday Group Tasting (R&R's) : Double blind. Bright ruby red color. Aromas of cherry, blueberry, boysenberry- bright and exuberant. Medium-bodied with candied red berry fruit on the palate. Forward, juicy and brightno idea what it is but I like it. (R&D)

Popped and poured, 57 F. Ruby red color, medium depth. Aromatic nose of earth, cedar and dried flowers. Flabby tannins, lively acidity. Light oak well integrated, as is the alcohol. Medium body. Tart cherry, cranberry, savory orange rind, herbs, tobacco and balsamic notes with hints of minerality. Lingering drying finish. Solid QPR. May try to hunt down another bottle or two to see how it develops.

A classic Chianti. Surprisingly light on tannins for a young wine, great with a chicken, garlic pasta. Relatively deep purplish red, lighter nose of strawberries and violets. Rich on the palette with several levels of complexity. Very good to excellent.

Perfectly fine. Basically modern. Balanced but dense, slightly darker and bigger than I might typically expect. Not particularly expressive. It was fine. Nothing special. Nothing particularly wrong with it. Not in the same league as, for example, the '21 San Giusto a Rentananno, which I have had several times over the past year. (Although, to be fair, I almost always prefer the SGaR wines to their respective Fontodi counterparts, so I suppose that was to be expected.) 90-91

One of my favorite Chianti Classico. On the nose very deep, velvety, dark fruit. On the palate dark cherry, fine tannins, very smooth, long finish, that ends a little bit green, due to its age. Rather straightforward but alread pleasant.

Rich sour and tangy cherry on nose and palate with some earth notes, though not the balsamic/smokey notes you often get with CCs. Quite a bit of tannin but very drinkable right now. Fresher and more satisfying than the 19s I tried a year or two ago. Some oak but only at first.

Decanted 45 minutes. Deep ruby color, pale Ruby on the edges. Fruit is already Big on the nose, with tobacco, traces of leather. The mouth comes up very strong : fruit bomb first, with cherries and plums, then comes the medium high acidity, then the tight structure hits you with a Little astringency, but still refreshing. Was paired with very meaty ragu and would have been pretty good with a ribeye. This is something built for the long run. I …

Sangiovese 2019 horizontal tasting (My house) : Unfortunately Fontodi 2019 was quite faulty, not undrinkable, but had a quite persistent stable smell at the nose, with a palate of high acidity and almost missing tannins, while from my record this had the potential to rival the Montalcino bottles in terms of body and structure, it lacked these quality.

Very good chianti Classico, but to my taste needs a bit more time or a long decant. I found the tannins slightly firm, although if definitely improved with air. Wish I had left this longer in the cellar.
