Drank the 2005 Errazuriz Don Maximiano Founder's Reserve (today $100 on Searcher, wow!) side-by-side a 2005 Altaïr Vineyards & Winery. The former was far more unique and elegant, albeit lighter (think old Napa Cab); the latter was very formulaic, think modern and hedonistic Napa Valley blend with a distinguishing Carmenere note. Both bottles were purchased in Santiago, Chile, before the country began appearing on the wine maps. Score: 91.5 (rounded).

Brought this to a wine dinner at Kai Duck. Theme of the evening: 2002 Bordeaux vs Chilean Bordeaux Blend wines. Drank alongside the 2002 Almaviva. Dark purple in colour with ripe dark fruits on the nose and palate. Alluring and inviting with some herbaceous and mint notes, backed by dark chocolate and black coffee. Vibrant, and starting to show some layering and complexity. A stunning wine.

Pop and poured. Drank over 4 hours. A nose of rich black fruits, blackberry, cassis, black cherry, with a touch of mint and a green leafy almost herbal aspect to the finish. On the palate the same black fruits, with the mint, a touch of chocolate, and then a slight tannic bite with a touch of leather and tobacco after the first couple of hours. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (78%), Carménère (10%), Petit Verdot (7%) and Syrah (5%). Aged for 22 months in French oak barriques (81% new). 14% alcohol, 3 g/l residual sugar and 5,6 g/l acidity. Dark ruby with the tiniest of brown edges. An amazing nose of paprika, smoke, grilled beef fat and dark berries. The palate is cassis, black berries, cedar and loads of other dark fruits. The finish is looong with a slightly green edge that indicates a wine in its prime, fully ripe but with 10+ years of vigor still left. Drink now-2032.

Stunning: decanted for 2 hours. Showing very little bottle age- dark purple to the edge. Last time we tasted this it was an utter guerilla of a bottle. Now an elegant bottle of wine. Tannins mellow, cassis on the nose. Big fruity mouthful with blackcurrant and damsons and hits of lavender. Great length.

May have passed its peak. Not enough fruits so mostly on the bitterness side. Brownish on red with some black sediment. Finish still long and enjoyable.

Inviting aroma upon open, dark red. Ripe fruits taste with slight spicy, some coffee，little earthy. Tannin polished but firm. Lasting aftertaste with some sweetness. Not sure to the level of Lafite, but no doubt a good wine ready to drink.

Tried 2007, 2010 and 2012 - 2007 excellent, 2010 has more potential than 2007 - wait another 2-4 years. 2012 will be ready in 2-3 but has not the same potential as 2007 and 2010.

Purplish red center to deep Garnett edge. Full body. Nice floral aroma. Black and blue fruits, mocha and pencil lead,with slight spicy. Polished tannin. Medium length finish. Some sediment.

The youngest wine in this vertical. On the nose cassis, spices, eucalyptus - quite cool and restrained. Good structure, spicy, grippy, firm, quite intense, hints of oak. Fine length. Hold. 90-91+

Dark fruits, cassis blackberry black cherry, bit of oak on the nose. Medium dark in color. On the palate, subtle dark fruit at the front, followed by spike in acidity, soft tannins - long finish. Well integrated, balanced. Enjoyed this one

Vraiment excellent pour ses 15 ans. Les aromes de plant de tomate se sont estompés. Encore une bonne structure, va tenir la route encore quelques années. En bouche, un peu de vanille, boite à cigare, belle finale persistante

Trade tasting: Beautiful eucalyptus infused blackcurrants, volcanic minerals, cassis with minimal oak. Its medium bodied solid and compact blackfruits and eucalyptus palate has a nice taut feel, some austerity and nice acidity. Ends longish with nice tannin. I think this must be laid down for a few years to develop. This is still juvenile.

Retailer tasting. The wine was medium to dark ruby in colour and offered black currant, dark cherry, spices and some eucalyptus on the rather forward nose. On the palate the wine showed black currant, dark cherry, chocolate, some spice and a hint of eucalyptus, with medium-level acidity, well-integrated tannin and good length. The medium-bodied wine was reasonably balanced, but a little disappointing in context with its price.

Decero and Errazuriz winery visit; 1/26/2017-2/5/2017 (Argentina and Chile) : In the '90s they started to export, 12m used French, 12.5% ABV, lots of mint and eucalyptus aromas here. very up front. chewy med/- tannin, a very wild wine in the line up. Candied evergreen aromas. My least favorite of the line up today.

Decero and Errazuriz winery visit; 1/26/2017-2/5/2017 (Argentina and Chile) : More new oak, a more powerful style. now a blend, 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Cab Franc, 7% PV, 18 months, 100% new French. Here they were going for more ripeness, to ripen out the green in what was a warm vintage. nice aromas, with a savory/umami palate. 14.5% ABV, Francisco feels that with this wine, they took it too far, too much new oak, too much ripeness. still shows significant …

Very deep bouquet with dark fruits, cassis, licorice and oak. On the palate chocolate, a lot of red fruits, a lot of juicy acidity but also sweetness, sweet spices, good tannin, sweet licorice and luxurious oak. Overall a full bodied, still youthful wine with a great length. No problem to cellar this for another 5+ years.

- Violet color with slow forming legs and has flavours of chocolate, blackberry, black currant and dusty with a medium/full body. Leathery texture with a medium finish - Revisited this wine and impressions were more positive. Defintely has the chilean characteristics of loam and leather mixed with full fruit. Excellent structure. Full body. Medium finish. A little pricey but very good. Drinking well now.

Double decanted 2h prior to tasting. Deep colour, gorgeous spicy, dark berry nose. Sweet, mouth filling dark cherry and berry fruit with spice and tarry notes (as with previous vintages). Very approachable but will develop and improve substantially over decades if earlier vintages are a guide. Complex, smooth, and long. Oak is already integrated. Very classy wine with great potential. Tasted during a WA event „a matter of taste”. This is a 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Carmenere, 7% Petit Verdot, 5% Syrah blend. Dark ruby. Very grapy, fruity nose with vanilla and toast. Better than the two previous wines but, technically correct of course, but with little character and aromatic depth. If you like this streamlined international style you can give 90 points. For me it is 88-89 max.

Fremragende vin! Lækker intens duft af kirsebær og chokolade. Powerfuld og frugtig smag med masser af kirsebær, solbær og hvor shiraz' varme og volume træder frem, men uden at vinen bliver egentligt jammy. Fine toner af mørk chokolade, vanille i en dejlig lang og fint balanceret eftersmag. Stor, stor vin, der dog fortsat mangler lidt kompleksitet.

Lovely color and Brillo. Nose of dark fruits, mushrooms and wet earth. This is one of my favorite wines of South America. Finishes with mouth coating tannins, very fleshy almost chewy with dark fruits. A very well made wine. The only downside I can see here is price. With a price tag of 65-70 dollars might be pushing a bit. It would be an excellent wine for 45-50 bucks.

Wow! Premiere experience avec la grande cuvée errazuriz. Cela ne m'a pas deçu. Definitivement le plant de tomate au nez. Belle structure, attaque franche, belle finale.

Dunkles Purpurrot mit feinem rotbraunem Wasserrand. In der Nase nach Nüssen, Zwetschken, Heidelbeeren und Leder. Am Gaumen zuerst intensive Kirschfrucht mit gut stützender Säure, dann Schokolade- und Kaffeenoten mit Gewürzen, gut eingebundener Alkohol, sehr lang im Abgang. Wirklich ausgezeichnet, wirkt eigentlich recht jung - der Wein ist sicher noch 5-7 Jahre großartig. Für 50 EUR nicht gerade ein Schnäppchen, aber das ist der Wein durchaus wert. 50+5+13+18+7

Don Maximiano 2004 / 91 Points (Parker) The Founder’s Reserve – Don Maximiano Series wines are Bordeaux-style blends made up of predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2004 Founder’s Reserve is slightly lighter in color than the 2003 and offers more elegance. It is already quite eamless and ready to drink. It has enough to stuffing to provide pleasure through 2020.

Drank it about a month ago and no specific note taken. I can recall that it was very dark, almost black. The nose and palate was dominated by cremé de cassis and oak. Full boided, good structure and tannins. Quite one dimensional but certainly a very enjoyable wine. Paired fantastic with a good old barbeque steak.
