My last bottle of the 2013, and of course it’s the best. Balance is spot on from the first pour, with all the meat and briny olive you could want, and still plenty of black fruit. Nothing out of place, nothing overdone. There’s just a little bit of California sunshine on the Rhône base. Moderate tannins in harmony with the fruit, so those who have some need not worry about further cellaring. Just a lovely bottle of Syrah.

Nice darker fruit, balanced with healthy acidity. Some dark floral notes on the finish. Didn’t overwhelm the summer grill spread of salmon and sausage.

Black bean soup, dandelions. Finished the bottle with fried chicken, squash, cranberry relish. All good combos

Been a while since my last bottle of this, and it’s starting to open up. Dark red fruit, leather, spice and a deep, meaty core sustain through the mid-palate and the finish. The depth of material says this has several more years of development, but I am thinking a nice, marbled steak would be good with this right now.

Light and bright, red fruits, acid driven, food wine. Drinks like a Pinot or gamay.

Napa Syrah. Med+ acidity. Only 12.9% ABV. Hot Napa climate gives this deep, dark fruit. Nose has savory elements at first, that quickly dissipate, revealing black cherry. Reminiscent of Grenache.

Continues to improve - with interesting floral, eucalyptus, and olive notes. Still notably unfruity. Good acidity. Well balanced and integrated tannins.

Absolutely singing. Fresh and bright with zippy acidity, but plenty of olive and dark fruit and meat. Well balanced and still a baby.

Sassafras and juicy, candied red fruits. More fruit and less savory than previous vintages.

Slightly more welcoming than my last bottle, though I did give it a 2+ hour decant. Lovely floral nose, with a note of sassafras (root beer). The wine is still quite tannic, so not very giving in terms of flavors on the palate - though some red fruit and some bloody/meaty notes coming through. As with the previous bottles - I'm guessing more fruit would be apparent on day 2 or 3, but this bottle did not last long enough …

Sampled over two nights (so far), and it was even more interesting on the second night. Right on opening there was a bit of a wall. The wine needed an hour of air to start showing more than a monolithic, dense personality. It slowly opened up to reveal meaty, tar, herbal and dark red fruit tones. I was late getting to it, so I recorked the bottle and put it aside for a night. Well tonight it was another thing …

Closed on PnP. 2nd night it opened up into something really interesting. Herbs and eucalyptus along with currant, cherry, raspberry.
