Clear, pale gold in color. Very thick, slow legs. Aromas of hazelnut and citrus. Very rich and full mouthfeel. A bit heavy, actually. Aging nicely, but really probably at its peak.

Drank two bottles. Both are hanging in there but drink up now. Muted nose, but delicious flavors of pear, citrus and oak. Doesn't have the structure and grace of the best Hobbs.

This was almost not drinkable. Way past its prime!

Amazing stuff served with the tasting menu at Providence in LA. Rich, powerful incredible finish but not overpowering like many of these Cali-cult Chards. Buttery, oaky, floral, mineral, it just had it all. Well done Paul and team!! My White wine of the year so far. Outstanding.

Paul Hobbs Winemaker's Dinner (Paul Hobbs, Sebastopol, CA) : This was the class of the flight. More mature, golden color. Complex nose of wet stones, lilac, honey. Perfect palate weight and concentration, I could have held it on the tongue for minutes. Long, memorable finish. Pure class in a glass. I really like Paul Hobbs designate Chardonnay, perhaps more than any other varietal that he produces.

Tonight this bottle was very heavy on the butterscotch and oak, which domianted the hints of lemon peel and pineapple that poked through once in a while. Very disjointed, all alcohol and kind of thin. Very disappointing versus the other two bottles we had in 2010, which were wonderful.

Notes similar to last bottle ... This is a great example of CA chardonnay loaded with pineapple, melon and peach flavors balanced by lemony acidity. It is rich and thick, with vanilla, butterscotch and a hint of oak. Really an excellent wine.

Full throttle CA chardonnay with a crem brulee nose. Pale golden hue, vanilla, butterscotch, minerals and spice, some lemon/lime acidity to balance. Full flavored yet balanced with a medium length finish. Just about the best Chardonnay we've ever had.

Overoaked, heavy and not interesting. A disappointment.
