First I find it hilarious that the next most recent review is from 15 years ago lol. Nose: perfumed sweet strawberry, cinnamon, currant Palate: bing cherry, fresh strawberry, jammy. Tannin is WAY mellowed out. Finish: Long, dark chocolate, leather/tobacco Honestly just enjoyable to drink. This is a producer I love and they have always made quality wine. The wine might be past its peak? But I don't know, nor do I care. Good wine is good.

Not sure if this bottle was representative given the glowing reviews from others, but this was hot thick and everything I don't like about zin. Started out nice with a distinct cocoa, dark chocolate nose, but hot and sweet in the mouth. Ripe red fruits tending towards raisin with more of the chocolate from the nose. Tasted like a dessert wine.

Decanted two hours. Solid and representative of good Zin - juicy red raspberries, peppery, nice structure, and no obvious alcohol or sweetness. Concentrated and long. Aged to perfection, no real secondary notes but the tannins and fruit have mellowed out. Delicious. $23 WB

Popped and poured. No real formal notes but this wine was just flat out delicious. Big, jammy fruit but not over the top. No detectable heat. Just a very rich, dense zin that is a pleasure to drink on its own. Wish I would have bought a few more.

Drank after dinner. Decanted for about 2 hours. Nose was a little flat for me. But very good on the palate. Peppery, but reasonably soft on the finish. Thouroughly enjoyed. Not sure there's much left here though. Would probably drink over the next couple years.

Drank unpaired after a heavy meal. Spicy and very velvety.

Open in 1-glass empty bottle for an hour (@70F). COLOR- dark, concentrated, and true red. NOSE- mountain red berries, cracked black peppercorns, wonderful fruit and depth, blueberry, mineral, and a touch of floral; actually comes across like a serious CdP on the nose alone (especially with all that divine pepper). PALATE- this has smoothed out a great deal over the past two years since last I tasted it; grittier before, more primal, and heavier on the pepper. The cedary oak …

For my tastes, this is one of the best Zins I have had. All three bottles I have had have been consistently wonderful. With air, these get velvety, round and balanced. Outstanding fruit, structure and mouth feel. It is deep yet fresh.

Wow! Wish I could get some more of this. Much different than a year ago. The pepper is much softer now and the flavors are much silkier. The fruit is perfect and complex.. not over the top. Decanted for about 2 hours. Drink now.

Lean and austere? Was Laube smoking crack. I didn't take formal notes on this but my recollection of this wine was that it was neither lean nor austere. I remember a zesty wild berry zing, a full body, definitely some toast but not overdone, and a complexity about it that set it apart from the more pedestrian Zins coming out of Cali.

Decanted for 2+ hours and consumed after 2007 Seghesio Zin that had been decanted for 4 hours. IMHO, a much more refined zin package than the Seghesio, but still capturing the nice refined berry up front with a distinguished pepper finish. I think the 2 years older plus slightly better pedigree mad it my favorite of the 2

Dark zin, the nose promises alcohol and according to the bottle at 15.2%, thats no surprise. The 'alcoholic hot' nose puts me off a bit and this is another reason why I prefer old world wines to Californian. Initial taste of fruitiness but the alcohol definitely present with a strong peppery taste. After opening for a while, the alcohol died down a bit which leads me to believe that another couple of years in the cellar might help this wine. …

Peppery and berry, everything you want in a zinfindel. Very, very good QPR, I would drink any chance I get.

You gotta love the pepper to like this, but I loved it. Popped and poured, but really developed over the hour that it was open. The peppery finish is very dominant, but subsided with food and with decanting. Definitely will decant this for a few hours next time.

90 min. decant; typical medium dark zin color. Tons of cracked black and white peppercorns on the full and layered bouquet; there's a depth here that is quite impressive; dark cherries; a char-grilled kona-crusted steak aspect; some leather; and a touch of sandalwood. This is a little hot on first sip; but wow what an amazing finish! Back to that in a moment. Very full bodied, this wine zings through its phases, rushing towards an inevitable, triumphant finish. On palate: …

Color: Red-Brown-Purple. Nose: opened up after decanting. Dominated by really well balanced red and black fruits with some vanilla and an olive-like aroma really lights up my nose. This nose screams 'balance'. Flavor: Very full flavor profile from front to back of tongue. Really pure dark fruits, vanilla, definite sweet tarts. Some nice tannins dance around the tongue at the end, making the finish pretty robust.

Fairly (and surprisingly) complex, at first tight on the nose but opened well within an hour, almost tropical mids despite somewhat earthy fragrance but finishing with a spicy and slightly tannic, dry tail. Not your typical fruit-forward, bombastic zin, more of a bordeaux drinkers zin, very enjoyable and good now
