Bedrock Wine Co., Weill a Way Vineyard Exposition Two Syrah, Sonoma Valley

Our second wine in the series from 2011 -- had the Exposition One a few days earlier. This one has more northern rhone characteristics -- a bit more minerality. Not as fresh as "One" but more complex. We'll give this one 1 point higher. Looking forward to Exposition Three next!

Still youthful in appearance, nice aromas and flavors of currant and raspberry, cedar forest notes, finishing bright and balanced. A fresh and elegant syrah. Just shy on the nose. Probably at peak, but the freshness suggests it’s got time.

Great wine, medium bodied, with heavy fruit and heavy licorice under tones. Dark red color, opaque purple rim. Nose of ripe blueberry, lite fennel, strawberry - meaty. Taste: starts silky with acidity. Big red fruit - raspberry/Strawberry and even little plum with lite cinnamon and string black tea on front. Added anise and subtle tannins on finish.

Open all 3 of this series from 2011 with an hour of decant and back into the bottle; Then we drank over 2-3 hours with Lebanese lamb shank and Lulu kabob. Fun to think of a comparison to a Guigal LaLa, but there is no comparison. However, this is an unbelievably good wine in its own right. There was more fruit, and less Rhône-ish flavors (no meat, bloody, or iron notes), but the depth was great. It started out a bit reticent and earthy. Bedrock syrahs at Bazaar Meat (Chicago, IL) : The most disappointing of the three in the flight -- this showed a little dead on the nose and palate. Lots of black cherry and modest vanilla tones, but generally just structural and not particularly expressive. Oddly shut down in comparison to the other two wines as well.

River School Auction Tasting (Washington DC) : The "La Turque" of the three. This had, to my tastes, the best combination of classic Northern Rhone elements - smoked meat, brine, flowers, white pepper - and dark fruit. Great length and depth but texturally right between the lighter Exposition 3 and the rounder Exposition 1. Really a great trio together and, as a serious Northern Rhone drinker, this was as close as I've seen a New World wine approach Cote Rotie.

A very nice syrah. Drinking well now with a bit of air. Fresh red/black cherries, raspberries, licorice, some pepper, hints of earth and grilled meat. The medium acid/tannins are integrated. The oak is there but balanced, and I agree with others the viognier adds a nice lift.

Needs a very long decant. First small glass right out of the bottle was astringent and overly syrupy, so I gave it another day to open. After one day in the open bottle, the layers of flavor start to come in. The nose smells of licorice candy, fleshy black cherries and a little peppery meat. Rustic red raspberry jam and red licorice on the nose - surprisingly fruity! Red and black cherries begin the palate, followed by a big peppery jump, then stones, leather, red raspberry, and roses. Finish brings strawberry and black cherry fruit with chocolate notes along with polished, soft tannins. There's a final addition of meat, sweet oak notes, and vanilla bean. Wow! Bought direct from Bedrock in April 2020. Not sure what I’m missing here. This is very pruned and well past prime. Borderline Grenache/Châteauneuf du Pape like in texture (syrupy) and sweetness. Some nice N Rhone game and smoke come through but this has missed its drinking window by five years. Considered not rating as this is long gone but given the indicated drinking window I have elected to.

A really beautiful syrah, with flowers and blueberries, some gaminess, and just hints of bacon fat. A sense of north Rhone without being exactly that. Wish I had lots more!

Purchased directly from bedrock at release in 2014 but unfortunately flawed. Sad to hold a wine for 7 years in a wine fridge to have it be spoiled

PNP. Followed over the night. I wanted to fall into the glass, the nose was so good, floral and savory at the same time. Garnet in color. Meat, white pepper, cinnamon, wild raspberry. Bold fruit but not heavy, layered complexity. The 8% Viognier adds a nice freshness and lift. I expect this will have a long life, but very accessible now.

Those that look to notes first - decant for a few hours to allow for the bloom. Next level for sure. Layers and depth. Just such a pleasing bottle of wine. Blue fruit - a tad forward vio. Bingo!!

My first Bedrock Syrah (!) and it did not disappoint. Layered notes of blue and black fruit, pepper and apricot, with a touch of salinity. While the hefty (8%) Viognier component gave this wine some lift, I tend to prefer less, if any, Vio, but that's just me.

So very impressive. Stunning nose and depth of fruit. Drank next to the 2007 SQN Labels syrah and it more than held its own.

Compared to the 2011 Expo One Weill I enjoyed this even more. The added Viognier gave some floral aromas and the reduction in whole cluster cut back on the spice.

Pepper, meat, stone, almonds, a certain sweetness, lots of fruit. Alcohol nonexistent, tannins nicely in the background. What a treat. Delicious.

My favorite of the three. Very enjoyable. Well built with no sharp edges. Opens in about an hour. Deep and complex. Great wine for those of us who enjoy BIG wines. Packs lots of flavor. For the Saxum, SQN crowd. Drink or hold.

Decanted for several hours. I will not rate this wine because of a funky note found in many Pinot Noirs and Syrahs. It's what I term pinotesque in nature with an earthy/brett quality that I have yet to acquire an appreciation. It's a "food wine" for me and cannot be consumed in and of itself.
