Wauw- what a wine. The nose is screaming Riesling right from the bottle. But I don’t find the “yin/yang” acidity/sweetness that tends to go along with the wines from Mosel. This is bone dry and with a lovely bitterness so pronounced, that you can almost smell it in the glass. Everything just screams “green and bitter” but with fruity layers to back it up - wow! Very fragrant and very rustic on the palate :-)

Pears, apples, integrated oak and fine spice. Some nutty and creaminess. Good balance but hoped for some more drive and minerality given the vintage, vineyard and producer.

Very nice, and I think even better when we finished the bottle the next day. Good acidity, and for some reason it even struck me as being a bit salty. I think it’s still a bit young and for me individual flavours didn’t stand out too much, but the overall impression was really good. It was interesting to drink it along side the geek Riesling also from leaving post.

Today I'm trying a Riesling from Niagara Escarpment, specifically a single vineyard Riesling from Wismer Foxcroft block in Twenty Mile Bench. The region is quite prestigious in the Escarpment, given its rich limestone soils, its longer growing season compared to other subregions in Niagara, and the success of operations like Pearl Morissette and Le Clos Jordanne boosting its reputation. This specific Riesling is whole cluster pressed, fermented in stainless steel and aged on lees in concrete eggs for 7 months. …
