Tasted over three days. There are interesting red fruits scents in the background but the dominating note is strong reduction that never went away even after three days of air; and what is really bad here is the reduction note extends in the mouth, so it is likely that reduction will never go away. It is a pity as the underlying material looks excellent. This indicates the wine was not racked in due time, and/or some brett taking over, then …

The ripeness offer a bold expression of dark fruits. Still need a bit of time for the wine to soak up the oak, but otherwise a delicious juice.

When first opened four days ago, it was a large scale Volnay with big fruit and even more intense pepper and oak notes- set aside the bottle (recorked but with no preservatives) and revisited 2 days ago, and then today. deepish purple red color, the painfully oaky and peppery nose took a couple of days to settle down and by the 4 day mark was nicely balanced while losing none of the muscle it displayed at opening, a wide band …

Not outstanding at the price point, but hey, finding value in Burgundy is always going to be tough. That said, it scratched the itch for a decent glass of Burg. Initial reductive smell wafted off after an hour decant. Nose immediately showing Kalamata olive, dried strawberry, leaf litter, pencil shavings from the oak, violets and the faintest resinous bit of rosemary. Very very nice, but not overwhelmingly complex or arresting as even village level Burgundy can often be. Palate shows …

Beautiful wine and great qpr. Elegant, nice acid, conversation heart. It's still young but drinking well with room to improve

January Wine Tasting & Sale (Chicago.wine - Glenview IL) : Walkaround tasting. Earth and red cherry in equal proportion. Good depth. Not as pristine as I'd prefer at this young age.

The nose is upfront and balanced with a darker take to the tones of cranberries, dark red cherries, raspberries, wood spices, earth notes, leather, violets, warm earth, and a dose of oak. The wood is a smidge distracting, but the dark fruit tones do have excellent balance. The Medium bodied feel leans more on the robust side of Medium with crisp, medium+ acidity and silky, medium tannins. This will certainly benefit from some aging. It’s a bit awkward at the …

Popped and poured to accompany roast chicken. Darker but still translucent ruby color. Pungent but contained nose of deep soil, violets, graphite, underbrush. Black raspberry and Bing cherry fruit on the seriously weighted palate cut with craggy stone and iron. Firm tannin and young acidity. Longer finish of pure dark fruit, brambles, and iron. Makes a statement.

A bit reduced, decanted 45 minutes and served cool, trending to darker fruits, quite light though, just pretty still. Very promising

One of the joys of Burgundy is discovering producers like this. Dark ruby in colour, this is a fresh and gentle wine but yet packs quite a punch. Glorious red strawberry and cherry fruits, wonderful acidity and drive towards a nuanced and layered finish which I really like. Textbook Volnay, and some 1er cru fruit I believe.

Académie des Cinquante Burgundy Tasting (Online) : Elegant and silky style, pure and relaxed, well defined, lovely floral lift (roses) with a hint of spice, has a natural feel to it, good weight of ripe red berry fruit and characteristic Volnay nervosité, still a bit tight on the finish, but good to very good resonance and length. Stylish. I love the typicity here - it needs two to three years.

A nice elegance in this wine. Very young. Wine was popped and poured. Medium colored red in the glass. Young vibrance of Luden's Cough drop with a bit of earth thrown in. Not much nitrogen. Wasn't too funky. The opening was a red cherry and red licorice mixture, medium bodied offering. Gave way to a little hint of earth, baking spice, pomegranate, and finished a little darker. Loved the slight raciness of this wine. Great wine to accompany salmon soup …

This Is a solid if young flowery burgundy. Has an edge that I don't care for. Tasting this at La Vinia in Paris. Solid wine. Price not bad for a quality burgundy. The edge should soften with a little time. My guess.

Pretty nose of flowers and bright fruits, elegant and fresh, soft but mineral. Pure silk, lively, perfect typicity. Rather impressive and pretty exactly what I want "inexpensive" Volnay to be. 10% whole cluster, 25% new oak.

For this wine 1996 was not an easy year. Well-built and solid, but slightly dry and impenetrable, lacks charm, will dry out.

Initially chocolaty but fresher after decanting with raspberries, blackcurrants and tea; light, quite tannic, lacks flesh but nice depth; decent length. Will it come together?
