Fleshy and round. Drinking beautifully. Popped and poured. Love it.

Just a little over the hill. Could have been my storage too. The cork broke.

WOTN. Dark purple in colour. Notes of black fruit, tobacco, and licorice. Nice acidity, Elegant and smooth tannins. Med+ finish. Bigger wine, but so elegant. 18 years old, but still so young. Will drink well for years.

No formal note. Nice wine. Nice acidity. Wish it was not the last wine of the night.

very good, and in contrast to my red burg experiences with 2006 (burly / heavy) this wine was light on its feet, had red and purple fruit on the palate, with good acidity and lift... pretty basic on both night one and night two but just an easy going wine with med plus body and an acidic rail for the fruit to ride on

Drinking marvellous now. Can let it age more but no need to.

Impressive bouquet of fresh cut flowers, tar, roses, earth, dried cherries. Mid-palate was missing some fruit but the acidity provides the refreshment factor. Tannins very fine, but still a little drying so some food is needed. Really nice Barolo.

Decanted for an hour. Clear ruby. Bouquet of earth, truffles, cherries, tar, smoke, leather dried flowers (roses and violets). Intense. Palate shows tremendous balance of integrated fine tannins, nice acidity, medium alcohol, and an overall medium body. Long complex finish. Paired beautifully with a pan-seared strip steak with pan sauce. What a gorgeous wine.

Borgogno Barolo Riserva vertical tasting at Jeroboams, Knightsbridge. Nose of floral Wimbledon strawberry, burnt caramel. On the palate the youthful tannins and furry traditional (Slavonian) Croatian oak were tongue-curlingly unresolved making any assessment difficult. But all said, a fine wine in the - very long term - making. Hold until 2026. Perhaps 92+?+ potential. Patience with all these wines necessary!

Nose with cherries and cranberries, some candied berries, hints of tar, some flowery notes, mineral, and just hints of developed notes. Medium-bodied, palate with cranberries, some light-coloured cherries, fine acidity, fine minerality, noticeable tannins, and a somewhat firm aftertaste with berries and mineral. Perhaps a little on the light side for a Barolo from a very good vintage, and still (surprisingly) young, will develop with more time in the cellar. 90(+) p. I was surprised that this was still so …

Medium, orange garnet colour. Highly aromatic with dried cherries, orange rind, cloves and flint on the nose. Elegant palate with a drying grip. Medium bodied with fresh acidity; medium finish. 4.5/5

Terroir Tuesday at Table, Donkey and Stick (Chicago, IL) : One of the more ornery bottles of Borgogno tonight, this was intensely black-fruited, with quite a bit of extraction. Dense and very powerful, but shut down in a way that makes this a little tough to evaluate. I think this shows the vintage in a very clear way. Not the most complex, but very good for its level.

I was really hoping for more out of this one. Nothing wrong but a simple straight forward Nebbiolo that tastes more like an entry level Nebbiolo than a 2006 Barolo. Drink up.

The wine took 90 minutes to open but it was still not quite there. Classis black cherries, mushrooms, forest floor, light sweet Oak. Smooth, but finish was a short. This wine had no sediment and comes across as being at least 3 - 5 years away from entering its ideal drinking window, at which time it should improve materially and likely put on more weight.

Drunk over two days. Tea and tar predominate on the nose, with intriguing soupcons of violets fusing with red fruit liqueur. Tight, but increasingly generous and voluminous palate, with notably softened tannins. At or approaching its ideal drinking window.

Very good Barolo that's in a nice place. Showing plenty of maturity, but there is still some pretty bracing cherry fruit beneath the emerging prunes and dried roses. Quite ethereal at times, this has silky and fragrant elegance supported by some sooty tanins and soft, but supportive, acidity. On a nice and mellow path from here.

An elegant wine that is beautifully balanced. There are notes of sweet flowers, Asian spice, lipstick and minerals. It has a solid graphite spine and delicate red berry fruits. The finish is long and ethereal.

Visit to Giacomo Borgogno (Barolo, Piemonte, Italy) : Garnet. Balsamic, rose, and dried cherry on the nose. Dried cherry and earth on the palate hold through to a long finish. This is slightly dried out but nonetheless attractive. Drink through 2030.

Nose is a bit developed but still shut down and with bitter structure. More tannins than fruit. Still there are dried fruits, raisins, prunes and leather. Tastes dominated by tannins at the beginning, but some fruit shines through. Still very young. Needs time to shine. 50+5+11+13+8 (87p)

bottle purchased at Toscana's in Brentwood, wow this was a good choice as it was much more approachable than most nine year old barolos, immediately the nose came out of the glass with nice sweet florals and cherries/raspberries, palate was alive and lifted when first decanted with really nice acid and red fruits, also some spice, the palate got a touch heavier over the next two hours at dinner and especially back at the hotel, really nice wine and a …
