Wow! what a stunner! Very good but still very young, just beginning to drink now. Full bodied and generous in style - proper Cali cab. Cassis, blackcurrant and blackberries - delicious. Long finish, straightforward. Beginning to drink now.

After double-decanting this bad boy for an hour pre-dinner, this medium-bodied gem exploded my taste buds—I’m no pro, but it’s my wine soulmate, I don’t have the knowledge to grant a 100-pointer. Nose? A wild party of berries and earthy vibes! Balance so epic, Cirque du Soleil acrobats are jealous clowns. Lingers like a hilarious afterparty. Praise the wine gods for my four backups! Russell, you’re the hero who uncorked my joy! 🍷😂

With our good friends Michael and Leslie coming out to dinner m I looked to find a wine that neither of us had tried before. This was in my cellar so I opened it and allowed it to slow ox for 5 hours during which time we drank a 2016 Realm Farella The nose is dark fruit with a hint of chocolate. The palate was dark berries, dark red cherry, sandalwood, tobacco and hints of chocolate which came out on …

Lighter than I expected for a Russell wine, but still good fruit and decently balanced.

Decanted for 3 hours and 45 minutes. Aromas of currant, tomato leaf, cherry, plum and touch of green pepper. Flavors of cherry, currant, plum, vanilla and green pepper. Ends with a 45-50 second finish with cherry and iron tinged finish. Big wine and lots of depth.

Very powerful and full bodied cab. We drank this right after Realm Absurd, and this Bevan outperformed the Absurd in every aspect. Beautiful nose of pine, earth and leather. Strong tannin and alcohol level, very balanced.

Opulent, lush, classic Sugarloaf. 60 min decant. Wonderful bouquet of intense berry. Smooth but a tad muted on the finish. All the same, love me some Bevan Sugarloaf.

Open 90 minutes before enjoying. Big, complex and rounded on the palate. Blue and black fruits on front with delicate leathery tannins. Long finish which brings out wet slate, slight pencil lead and forest floor.

Medium full earthy nose. Soft and fruity up front with nice tannins and pretty well balanced but a bit of extra sweetness.

Elegant and muscular! The combination blew my mind. Cabernet Franc and Merlot harmonized with each other. This was the first time to enjoy this kind of combination, and it turned out to be out of the box. Like other Bevan wines, he always managed tannin well. The beast was tamed really well by fruit and new oak. Basically, there is no drawback I can find in this wine. Probably, the only missing point will be the uniqueness. This wine was …

Beautiful wine! Needs another 30 minutes of airtime in a glass or decanter but is liquid velvet; beautiful depth of fruit across the palate with great terroir and a tannic backbone that still provides structure but is secondary. Cooperage is elegant and balanced. Finish lingers for a minute. Just outstanding and drinking perfectly here.

Did a pop and pour and slo Ox for a couple of hours. Not a bad showing initially. Crushed Crayola crayons on the nose. Palate with ripe cherry. Fairly primary still. Alcohol a little noticeable on the finish along with some astringency. Was going to throw it into a decanter but got lazy and impatient. Whipped out the aerator and poured it through. An amazing transformation for sure. Ripe cherry with some tartness in the midpalate for balance along with …

California Wine Duel: Dana vs Dalla Valla vs Bevan; 10/20/2019-10/27/2019 (My home) : Second and last bottle. Purple with ruby edge. Bramble fruit and bush nose. Palate evolved from deep blue fruit to mint and sage and a medium finish of sage and cashew. Seemed to close towards the last glass with rough tannins and a bit too much of a herby finish. Drank well just seems young plus you can feel the 15% alcohol.

Decanted for an hour. Initial nose was very expressive with floral notes and bramble fruit - reminded me of the ‘01 Cheval Blanc but even more expressive. Palate of very rich blue and red fruit with hints of chocolate. Interesting balance where the fruit and alcohol build up to the verge of becoming over the top but then calms at the right moment. Very primary. However, at times the finish was shorter than expected and towards the end some sulphur …

So smooth and silky at this stage of the game. Give this a go if you have a few bottles. It’ll last for a number of years for sure, but there’s really no need to delay gratification. It was a little hot on the initial pour, but that quickly dissipated with some open air. Mid-palate here is medium, but perfectly balanced. Finishes with a lingering subtlety that adds sophistication and class. This is a testament to what Bevan’s wines can …

This rich and plush blend of equal parts Cabernet Franc and Merlot is drinking beautifully right now. The lightness of mouthfeel, in particular, is incredible for a wine of this size. Although I enjoyed the 2013 a bit more, this is a fantastic wine that overflows with flavor and intensity. Dark red in color and medium in body, the wine offers aromas of blueberry, wet strawberry, menthol, and pencil lead. Tastes of blackberry, raspberry, cocoa powder, and leather, with a …

In a beautiful drinking window currently, with ripe black cherry, plum, chocolate, and some faint spice notes. Decanted for a couple of hours and served <54 degrees. Though PnP was just fine, the decanting really helped to completely even-out the mid-palate weight distribution and provide for an optimized, seamless delivery of flavor. 95-97 points, depending on how intense you like your wine. This continues to soften and become more resolved with time. This 2012 serves as a notable comparison to …

It’s been about a year since I last had this wine, which now shows noticeable smoothing-out and an elevated sophistication that was not fully resolved back in mid-2017. Though part of me misses the initial power and intensity this wine used to display, I more appreciate the more integrated flavor profile it currently flaunts; a darker and more brooding core, but partnered with a silky textural cloak that weaves the flavors seamlessly. No more liqueur-driven notes to take away from …

Amazing nose from the beginning with pen ink and crushed blueberries. On PNP a bit subdued with blue and black fruits behind round tannins. After 5-6 hours of slow ox this starts to really unwind. Still not a big wine at all but a study in balance and poise. Fruit turns more to black cherry. Hints of oak, menthol, and smoke are well integrated along with graphite. No rough edges whatsoever and a cool touch of acidity gives just the …

Given the rave reviews i had high expectations. Prunes on the nose. Light body. Plums on the palate with dark cherry. However the oak/tobacco seems to dominate even after 2 hour decant. Given the price i was expecting more.

Same as my notes a few months ago. This was served alongside a 2013 Buccella (WOTN for 3 of the 5 of us) and a 2012 Saunter Eagle Summit (a distant third place). For me, the Bevan was the overall more complex and interesting bottle of wine among the three wines. It needed to be decanted and filtered at the restaurant (Morton's Steakhouse). The final sips were the best. Hold for another year. 97+ this time around.
