This was once a great bottle of wine. Unfortunately, this bottle was oxidized. The cork was OKbt wine was cloudy and the nose oxidized, from one minute to 3 hours of air. Flavor was a lot better than the nose, but still, this needed to be consumed a couple of years ago.

Winorama: A winter in Wineland III; 1/4/2019-1/13/2019 (Portland/Willamette, Eureka, Napa) : So there was a bit of a mixed view on this. To me it was a nice old barolo sitting next to a bunch of more intense wines (Napa and an Unico). I can see how the flavors in this in that context came through as a bit more acidic and muted. I think the bottle was good and it was just looking for more of the right pairing …

Attractive aged notes, tar, earthy tones, some raisiny sweetness and supporting acidity, quite good.

Gala Dinner at Antonio Galloni's La Festa del Barolo (Four Seasons Restaurant, NYC) : Brought by Peter. Strawberry compote nose. Elegant, sweet and tart in the mouth. Simple. Not what I'd expect from this wine.

Lunch at IWM, very good, classic, mature Barolo, balanced, with a great core of fruit, long finish

Tasted blind, this wine had a red center and tawny rims. The medium intensity nose showed roses, red soil, and a hint of raisins. It was rich and ripe in the mouth with moderate rounded tannin and great length. While not wildly complex, this is a well balanced Barolo. This appears to be in the early stages of its drinking window. Will it continue to improve? My guess is it could pick up a point or two.

Tasting notes very similar to when previously tasted. Old style Barolo. I gave wine slightly higher score only because it was so distinctive in style and forwardness of fruit. Shows age but has plenty of life left.

Very forward, violet, smokey, cigar box nose, soft medium-bodied fruit with tobacco and peppery flavors, very well aged, still ample tannins, short finish, needed at least an hour to open

With Michael Lehmann and Halina at Singer & Foy survey of 1985 Barolo. Fair ruby color. Something unpleasant in the nose. Candied. Not very good. Quite dense and rich in the mouth. Interesting. Fine stuff. Drinkable now. 4-8-15-7: 84/100.

With MPL and BLR at S&F survey of new Italians. Medium ruby. There is almost no nose to this wine. I swear! It's like water. On the palate, though, there certainly is fruit, though very austere, with a bitter finish. 5-8-13-5: 81/100.
