Really needed some air but this was a fine bottle. Delicate and balanced this was a highly enjoyable bottle. Not a “wow” bottle but there was a lot of pleasure to be found.

Opened some time prior to service; enjoyed over the course of an hour. The 2013 Vosne-Romanée pours a deep ruby with a transparent core; medium viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with its notes of strawberry, raspberry, black cherry, rosemary, coniferous forest floor, minerals and fine baking spices. We had this open for a few hrs before drinking but never really fully opened up to hit its stride. It’s all structure and tannins with a fair bit of dark red fruit and spice. Needs a bit more time.

Perhaps the best showing red I’ve had all year, ‘13 Malconsorts is simply explosive at the moment, with riveting intensity wafting an unmistakable Dujac perfume with an ethereal, silky palate that’s impossibly balanced between richness and elegance. Amazing red Burgundy that just could not have shown better!

We had this wine for my birthday dinner at Stateside, an Asian fusion place in Seattle, with cuisine that is a tough match for wine. With just a PNP, this wine exploded out of the glass with a perfect balance of tannns, acid, and fruit. Not a trace of being pas tits prime even though 19:years old. I purchased this some time ago; Dujac is rapidly becoming relatively unaffordable. A nearly perfect wine at present.

Translucent medium ruby with a hint of rust. After about 45 minutes, a lovely nose of slightly ripe plum and red raspberry cut with earthy full violets and an intriguing hothouse floral component. Layers of saturated but balanced red berry, enmeshed fine iron particles, bramble, and earth on the satin-textured palate. Bright acidity and smoothed tannin. Longer finish of echoing warm red berry, iron bits, and dark earth. A quiet wine, but with exquisite balance.

Excellent. Super floral, with intense violet. Such great acid, energy and litheness. Long, lingering finish. And great minerality. A hit, and only second to a 2012 Fonsalette.

Barolo, Barbaresco, Brunello (Casa Cichieti) : Touch of Chinese herbal but well integrated, pure cherry, cassis, fine but prominent tannins, lacks a little wow factor compared to the last bottle I had

Opened and poured. Ruby core, slight fading. A burst of black cherry, minimal green scents, and rising baking spice. Medium weight with a layer of sap. Excellent soil/dark fruit/acid mix with lovely clove and citrus on the palate as well. Fine, well incorporated tannin. Certainly open now but a lot more to give. This was less stemmy than many Dujac wines and more elegant than the massive 2019 Malconsorts.

Second half of a coravined bottle. (No tasting note for the first half) Consistent with my last note except that the nose is more giving and fruity and yhere’s some secondary development. Still very Dujac!

Some Wine Tasted at the Acker La Paulée Auction (Monterey - New York NY) : Richer than the 2005 with a similarly spiced profile, but slightly sweeter and not quite as effortlessly complete.

Decanted an hour before pouring, a fair amount of sediment. Beautiful spicy nose, Slight bricking, good balance of fruit and acid, tannins started fairly subdued but gained some grip with air. Drink now until 2030.

Domaine Dujac Cellar Visit and Tasting (Morey-St.-Denis) : 375 ml bottle served blind at the domaine. Ripe cherry, more black than red, beefy with good length and an expanding finish. Very good now, with upside. I thought 2002 Gevrey Combottes.

2006 vintage

RN74; 10/5/2024-10/11/2024 (Beaune, France) : Served double blind. Very firm structure here. There's some mature earthiness here but no detectable beetroot, which is usually my tell for the vintage, so I guessed this was something like a 1999 thanks to the riper fruit. A big tannic backbone, in the same vein as the 2022, was a clue here to the identity of this wine.

Barely translucent ruby. Nose was slow to show itself but after an hour revealed scents of airy violets, broad-based and somewhat ripe raspberry fruit amidst faint iron granules and earth. Layers of austere, pure raspberry fruit cut with brier and prickly, iron-inflected earth on the sinewy but slowly relaxing palate. Brisk acidity balancing firm but pliant tannin. Longer finish of dark berry, iron, and fine dirt. A fine 2006, early in its trajectory.

France 2024; 6/23/2024-6/29/2024 : Opened 6 hours early. Still a bit tight and young, this has great structure and energy, but needs time to come into form. Should be wonderful and close to Grand Cru level in several more years.

Fathers' Gathering (R & N's residence) : En magnum. Expressive nose displaying sweet concentrated red fruit with a hint of black, raspberry candy, black cherry, a hint of Vosne spice, rose, light caramel, cedar, stem, tree bark and earth. Excellent concentration, finely layered concentrated red and black fruit, silky and fluid, medium acidity and mineral, and a long sweet red fruit driven finish with Vosne spices at the end. This is drinking beautifully.

This bottle has certainly gone from strength to strength since the last time I had it, having grown in volume and density, and is now basking in all that pure yet dense and sweet red fruit glory. Lots of classic dujac spices and showing good balance, harmony and depth. Can't wait to see how this one will show with more bottle age.

Co-WOTN. A very good Malconsorts in a lighter vintage. Stemmy notes were not so obvious, less stem was a good thing. Excellent balance, good to go and will last. Thought this was a ‘14 Malconsorts.

Vosne / Chambolle 1ers from good producers theme : Knew the identity of the wine but not the vintage, guessed 2013 because I find Dujacs in cooler vintages have dark red rather than blue fruit, and less stem inclusion. So seamless, juicy and balanced, with an endless finish. Most including myself felt that this was the most complete wine on the night.

VR vs CM good producers (Shin Terrior) : Blind, wow the nose! Layers of flavours that hit you, intense and elegant, mix of red and blue fruits, hint of coke. Similar on the palate with layers of pure flavours, excellent density, deep with rose, violet, backed with a good core binding the flavours. Stunning

Would have scored more point if its aged further. Already starting to drink well. Pronounced nose intensity with red fruits, red cherry, strawberry, sweet red dates. Still youthful. Medium+ acidity and medium tannin. Tannin is silky. One of my favourite wine maker and appellation.

Premier Cru, but really Grand Cru, Malco, one of my favorite wines on the planet is just rocking tonight, pnp perfection wafting an unmistakable Dujac nose with layers of violets, cocoa beans, red berry fruit and whole brunch stemmy spice. The palate is pure silk with a mastery in balance of richness, purity and delivery of fruit, texture and acids with a finish that just keeps on going. Amazing wine.

Needed some coaxing to unfurl, but after an hour, you are hit with wave after wave of perfectly ripe strawberries, fresh rose petals, toasted cocoa and a myriad of spices. Lovely and fragrant nose with lots of depth, floral notes, cherries, and strawberries. Good acidity and quite full on the palate with more strawberry notes, a hint of cinnamon, tart fruit, and cherries. Long finish. This was really really good with nice complexity. Lovely wine!

Very Dujac spicy and stalky nose. There is black fruit there but it’s hiding. Very nice on the palate, black fruits, tannin and acidity, fresh and intense, good balance. Nice wine but the house style completely overwhelms vineyard expression.

Birthday Celebration (Racquet Club - Chicago IL) : From magnum. I am surprised this is so forward and already accessible, given it was more backward when tasted at Dujac in the summer of 2018. Beautifully Vosne spice with very good balance, with good enough weight and power, picking up steam through to its long-ish finish. Very good now

First tasted a decade ago at a Burgundy tasting in 2010. Loved it immediately and went out to buy a case. Have been following its development over the last decade and was disappointed on 3-4 tries. really enjoy the 2013s from Dujac and the Malconsort is one of the most alluring wines they made in the vintage. The fruit is beautiful and layered, there's hints of the classic stemmed dujac spice but everything is well integrated and subtle. It's aromatically perfumed. Popped and poured at dinner, purchased off the list. Beautiful nose showing spice, stems, sandalwood and a lovely fragrant cherry note. The palate is deep, ripe and redolent in cherry compote and a mineral element that works very well together. Very young but promising.

Fruit has faded and this is all stem spice and damp earth at this point. Smooth palate. Fine but not particularly interesting.

[Drank out of coravin, first pour of the bottle] The wine has the typical Dujac spice, cherry, leather and hints of mushroom. Mid-palate is strikingly fruity with finish towards minerality and leather. There is quite a bit of wood in the wine but well integrated. The wine is clean, balanced with layered in the mouth. A very beautiful wine. Looking to revisit it in 2-3 years. It can only become better.

Takes 20mins to breath in the bottle. Red fruit, floral, typical dujac spice notes, hints of Whole cluster fermentation. Tannin is subtle. The wine is very clean, structured on the palate. Finish has a bit bitterness and chewy. Long finish.
