With pasta, followed by lamb shanks. Decanted for several hours Followed my house 2016 barbaresco (no decant) Was great accompaniment to meal. Nuanced, no hard edges, medium bodied with good length. Big contrast to the delightful-in-its-own-way heartier barbaresco At that dangerous smoothness place where there is the inclination to drink a lot of it! Am guessing that just a couple of hours of decanting would be good enough at this stage of the life cycle Lucky to have a dozen …

This was a crowd favorite of the evening that included several different Italian varietals. Medium body with some heat 14% ABV, earthy bouquet, followed by leather taste with dark berries.

Decanted for 2 hours and back in bottle for another 4. With pasta (smoked mussel and nduja) Was solid. Still acidic and young ...even after the decant Many years to go..

At Ecco - Napoli. €40. Not decanted and (if any wine ever does) didn’t need it. Quite rich, more tar than roses, some soil notes, medium/full bodied, tannins quite soft, quite rich, tar, soil, mushroom, underlying red fruit, firm tannins but covered by fruit, good length finish. Quite full on, but excellent.

Double decanted. Two hours in a decanter and then five hours back in the bottle. Very good and I was pleased with the results from double decanting. The best value Barolo that I have seen.

It would have benefited from a decant.

Dark purple-red. Opened but not decanted an hour before dinner. Drinks well enough now but this has places to go and it's not fully there yet. Best to hold and drink some barberas in the meantime.

Surprisingly good. Fully mature and evolved, was kept in perfect conditions. Brick colour, with still some brightness. Rather intense nose, tertiary aromas, balsamic flavour, dried flowers, hints of Earl Grey, rose hip, prune, nougatine. Everything is subtle. Palate is soft, velvety with a little acidity keeping the structure and some firmness on the finish. More medium-bodied than full-bodied. Quite nice surprise actually. Not mind blowing, but a good drinking experience. Better with food than on its own. Drink up.

With summer's best fresh tomato risotto and crown cap rib eyes with chimichirri made with roasted scallions and roasted lemons Decanted and left alone for half a day. Did not work as well as I would have hoped. Hypothesis is that the significant airing made the wine too mellow to work with the bright sparkly (fresh tomato charred lemons etc) food The other wine (good quality Chateaneuf du Pape) worked brilliantly Will stick with more north italian/umami food for next …

woody bouquet and brown hue coloration, clean taste that lingers a little, may be better paired with dessert cake than an entree. Juice is flattening but still has a bite to it. If you have it, drink it now.

Fontanafredda are one of my reference Baroli. Colour, weight, nose, palate are all a classic example of Barolo. While there was nothing spectacular about his one, it still hit all the right points. And the QPR is good.

Lys rød farge i glasset. Aroma av kjølig frukt. Overmodne moreller med litt snerp. Godt av litt lufting, og da kommer den seg fort. Hadde ventet litt mer av denne, årgangen tatt i betraktning.

Porchini/Truffle pasta. Followed by simply grilled steak and minted peas. 2016 basic barbaresco pre-meal Into decanter 8 hours before drinking Did well with the food. Acidity and strength were great counterpoint Has 2-5 years to go before hitting super-goodness. Was very nice with the decant but will become better later

Really excellent right now in this format, consumed among friends for their wedding. Showing textbook sour red cherry, violets, hints of cedar, and a remarkably fine tannic finish. Outstanding wine, especially for the price.

La Rosa 10 year vertical on Zoom with Fabio Bosio. Drank in Conterno Sensory. Appearance is clear, pale intensity, ruby colour. Legs. Nose is clean, medium intensity, with aromas of licorice, muddiness, herb, crayon and chalk, dark red cherries. Developed. Weird. On the palate, dry, good high acidity, medium+ alcohol, high tnnins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of sweet red plums, dark red cherries, sweet herbs, licorice, muddy earth. Medium+ going on long finish. Good quality. Maybe some …

Very tasty Barolo if on the young side. Will last for a long time. After a two hour decant, you got sharp crisp acidity, some muted red berrry fruit (but the fruit is there) and the classic Nebbiolo scent. Can’t wait to taste the next bottle in five years. Perfect with a rib eye on a cool evening.

À carafer 1h-2h pour que le fruit s'exprime et que les tanins s'estompent. Pas très complexe mais très digeste. À boire à court-moyen terme.

Maybe it is the inconvenience of the size but the 1L bottle on WTSO was half the price per regular sized bottle. A sold/regular Barolo with the red-fruit & tannin. But a workhorse Barolo at the price of a weeknight drinker - wow!

Served from magnum where bottles had been opened a few hours before but not decanted. I was a bit concerned these might come across as tight, but actually they were pretty ready to go even from the beginning. Served next to a Produttori Rabaja which was officially twice the price and yet these held their own quite nicely. Perhaps a bit of a darker and brooding style. Went great with steak though. Drinking nicely. Could certainly age more, but I …

This is the MGA. The label is the kings colors. Hence the stripes. Pure fruit on the nose. Nebbiolo and does smell like Serra lunga. From the place where the vines were planted 100 years ago. Hence mga. Apparently aome.new oak on this. Strangely enough, very hollow on the mid palate and finish. Maybe that its youth but this seems to be really boring barolo. Maybe it just needs.to open up?

Distinct brown upon pouring, and it does smell a little oxidized and/or over the hill. However, the palate betrays none of that, and still shows solid structure, acidity, and body. Maybe not the greatest example of Barolo, but we drank it up pretty quick regardless.

Opened for half hour, sipped over 30 min. Nose with touch of funk, dried fruits, sweet nose. Fig and prunes, sweet, acidity and sugar hit me like a prune Tic Tac. Touch of herbal notes. Acidity is still present and strong and a touch of tannins. Lovely and alive wine.

Drinking window: 2013 - 2022 The 2005 Barolo La Rosa is a graceful, floral wine laced with perfumed red fruit, roses, sweet spices and minerals. The La Rosa possesses gorgeous textural richness in a soft, approachable style, with a long, refined finish that rounds things out. Today the wine comes across as quite primary, but with some additional time in bottle it should develop additional tertiary nuance. The tannins gain on the finish in this deceptively medium- bodied Barolo.

In a great place now. Rich fruit supporting the tannins. Good acidity and typicity. Hint of non chewable (no sugar) vitamin C (I know this is weird but it's the closest thing to what I get in the wine). No danger of falling apart but I see no point in delaying gratification.
