A little bit of everything in this one. Very enjoyable now but will improve with more time in bottle.

Very well-made Cabernet, with good vinosity and ripe but nicely restrained fruit in the mouth. Nothing stands out, but nothing detracts either. As with many Hall Cabs, it can be drunk young with pleasure. 5-13-17-8: 93/100.

Quick notes: approachable now, velvety and balanced with no dominant flavor aspect just red ripe fruits.

Trip to Napa visiting opposite ends of the winemaking spectrum : A ripe kaleidoscope of fruit, with not much secondary notes that I could detect. It was fruit forward on the palate and very soft. Not a lot of structure which makes it seem like a wine built to be drunk now or within the next few years. Tannin and acid was soft, so it almost became like just drinking a berry juice. I am not offended by this lack …

Over ripe cherries, over ripe raspberries, bay leaf, tomato leaf and braised beef on the nose. Medium + intensity of aromas. Black cherry jam, spearmint, licorice and cloves on the palate. The fruit is completely jammy/preserved, which distracts from what could be interesting spice/herbal flavors. Medium + intensity thereof. I think there is some RS on this, though no one would ever admit it. Full bodied with medium acid and medium + tannins. High alcohol. If the fruit was fresher …

Pop and pour and surprisingly open for business from go. General impression only, but a beautiful bottle.

Shared a bottle of this with my brother as he decided to share some Flannery steaks 🥩 with his wife along with my wife and I. This bottle was terrific and vanished awfully quickly. Had a really nice balance to it and there was blackberry, chocolate, and a ripe lushness to it. My first of four and absolutely loved it. Went back to this one as I had tasted this at the new Palm Springs Hall tasting room recently. It …

2019 Hall Cabernet Sauvignon Kathryn Hall Napa Valley ($185, at Napa Vintners tasting). Dark, viscous (15.2 alc.); ripe grape, herbaceous, smokey, wood nose; low-mid acids; mid tannins; rounding out; semi-long tasty Cabernet finish. 17/92.

[cold-impaired smell and taste] deep ruby tending purple colour. bold and complex developing nose and palate of ripe black cherry, plum, raspberry and currant with accents of cedar, leather, sweet tobacco, savoury herbs and earth. dry, full-bodied, with firm but very ripe tannins, balancing acidity, plush mouthfeel and impressive finish. well-made and complex "Napa Cab". drinkable now but would benefit from a good amount of time for the new oak to integrate and the fruit flavours to further develop. "excellent" …

Napa, March 2024 (Napa) : Tasted at the winery. Probably the top wine of the tasting, but that's not saying much, especially considering the price. Given the glowing reviews here, I'm open to the idea that the bottle itself may have been open too long. I'd say it's decent, but also felt a little flat. Mellow tannings, light finish. I'd drink it, but not a great QPR at $225.

What an amazing expression of Napa Cabernet Sauvignon. Lots of black fruit and sweet tobacco expressions with hints of espresso and savory flavors. Beautifully integrated with fine grain tannins and mouthwatering acidity. This wine has hit its stride and should be great for at least another decade.

Maybe the wine (or the taster) was off tonight. 12hr decant. Heavy black fruit and hot on alcohol. Not my style. Have had better of these.

Kathryn Hall Cabernet Vertical 2008-2020 presented by Kathryn Hall (Joe’s Seafood - Chicago) : 95% Cabernet Sauvignon 4% Merlot 1% Cab Franc 25m, 75% new French oak 15.2% ABV 2019 was a good year for growing. Much more intensity of aromatics after the rather closed 2020. Less distinctly graphite than the 2020, but more, all around, mineral depth for sure. Less brooding and more ready for biz-nass. Chewy, medium minus tannin, a little more red fruit than the 2020. 500 …

Way too young but the future is very bright - showing restraint but well made. The color is intriguing, dark purple blue color with a soft floral cedar nose. On the palate, very youthful and restrained. Dark purple fruits blackberry, Bing cherry, currant and a little plum. 98% Cabernet, some Merlot and Cab Franc. Pop and pour with no decanting. The better days are to come for this wine. 92+/ 93 Points.

Opened one bottle for an early trial. As expected, firm tannins are holding a lot back. But a solid core of dark berry fruit is evident, along with toasted oak, grilled herbs, and perhaps some licorice. Reveals a bit more in the mouth than on the nose. Overall positive signs on what's to come.

Rich and jammy opulent. This is a cab pleaser. Nice long finish, it should sail with 5-7 more years of cellaring

Dark ruby fruit - dark cherry, currants, and some blackberry. Smooth mid-palate with solid depth/concentration - medium plus body. Nice rich flavors of dark berries, some spice, and cassis. Fairly long finish. Decanted for one hour and drank over a couple more. Improved a little with time but surprisingly drinking well after the decant despite its youth. In my opinion, Hall consistently does a nice job in the $60 to $70 price range with their Napa cabs including Terra Secca, …
