Hattingley Valley, Entice, England

Icewine made by the folks at Hattingley, bought on a visit there 5 years ago this month for my stag party. Bacchus grapes grown in Hampshire, frozen artificially to -10°C for 72h and then pressed to extract concentrated juice. Half bottle under Vinolok. Really tasty wine but fairly simple. Very good acidity, nice and sweet, with aromas of peach, melon, tangerine, elderflower and pear. Where this really excelled was the delicious acidity that made this a very moreish drop- even …

Consistent with my previous note, this is nice enough, but really quite simple, without any hint of complexity.

Shown during Caviste UK's Zoom tasting of "Old, Interesting and Fantastic" wines. Made from the bacchus grape. Light gold colour. Aromatic nose, pineapples, pea pods. Rich palate, not overly oily, quite sweet, well balanced. Would suit apricot flan.

An English "ice wine" from Bacchus, with a bit of help from a commercial freezer. Quite delicate pear flavours, more medium sweet than a rich wine, but delicious with some creamy mature stilton.
