Alsace vs Germany Great Dry Riesling Tasting (Wine Library, Oxford Street) : Medium minus intensity aromas of waxy citrus, lime, slight stone fruit, touch of spice, quite savoury on the palate. Structured. Textured burr, fruit is muted, long. Non-intrusive alcohol warmth on the finish.

Dry Riesling-Alsace, Austria, Germany (K&L Wines, San Francisco) : Light yellow. Some petrol. Just off dry. Powerful, glycerine stone fruit, very good acidity for the year. Excellent at this level but it is quite ripe.

vary pale straw and mildly viscous. petrol, bergamot oil, lanolin and coriander seed mingle with rich peach and nectarine aromas in the nose. bright, dry, silky in texture, and tight, needs quite a bit of air to open up… and then the layers appear, with flavours playing hide and seek. acidity, minerality and concentration in very good balance. some honeyed accents betray the ripeness of the vintage in the long finish. not yet developed enough but likely to come together …

Deliciously unctuous: fat but with acid cutting through. Some honey, some apple, some lime and then all that lemon.

Tasted at winery. Light yellow color. Fresh lemon, red apple. Lean and austere. Oliy texture. Balanced and well made. Long finish.
