Château La Conseillante dinner & Kabinett tasting (Groot-Ammers, Netherlands) : AP 2 90. More developed than the 2004 and 2002, peach and slate, waxy depth, lots of minerality, fresh and deep, salty finish.

Stunning. This Kabinett has kept improving; developing even more complexity. The balance is impeccable, combining intensity with elegance in a way that no other vineyard site can. I will try to find more.

11th of 12, pnp, perfect cork and level, even nicer than last bottle, is there a more perfect Summer aperitif at a sweaty 32? F+ (18)….wish I had more as should hold for years. Guess it's nearly time to move on to the spatlese and auslese, though Idoubt they'd be a better match for the weather!

better showing than previous bottle, which is comforting with a few bottles still remaining. The aromatics and the elegance of this wine are simply outstanding. I have not found any other Riesling that comes close in this traditional style. Don't decant but let it develop in the glass. Used special Riesling glasses picked up at Auberge de l'Ill in Alsace with remarkable results. Simply amazing how much is packed into this wine at 9 % alc. The finish is very …

10th of 12, pnp but drunk over 4 nights, perfect cork and level, as my 2015 note, now at or near peak, perfect summer weight. F+ (18).

Beautiful wine near its peak. It was decanted which was perhaps a mistake. A vast display of floral, apple/pear, citrus and honey aromas lifted by the racy acidity I always associate with this vineyard. Very complex on the palate with a long finish. I plan to drink the other bottles over the next year

9th of 12, drunk over 3 nights - pale; nuanced nose developing, floral, mineral, tension; light, very long and persistent for a cabinet, refreshing semi sweetness, lovely balance and energy, improving and best bottle yet. Fine plus (18/20).

Pale lemon. Initial whiff of kerosene, but actually still quite youthful with a slightly minerally, grapey nose. Light bodied, off dry, gentle, mellow apple and grape on the palate, touch of sherbet, balanced acidity on the good length finish. Very nice, though I do struggle to get too excited by it. No hurry though on this showing.

Everyone was suffering from fatigue after tasting 49 wines, but this special one made everyone sit up as it entered the room. Dark, golden color befitted the weight of the wine and the occasion. Intense aromas followed by density in the mouth (one could almost chew it and feel the viscosity). And then the complexity gripped me. So rich, yet so smooth down the throat. I had to remind myself to go slow here, for it was easier to drink …

The nose immediately shows phenomenal depth. Full peach scents are touched with a smoky note, as if the peaches were quickly placed on a grill and removed again. Scents of apples, sage, and nutmeg dance around behind the peaches giving fantastic complexity to this wine before it's even tasted. It starts out easily and grows quickly to deliver golden fruit with full honey flavors. Tart acidity grows with voluptuous peach flavors that grow more powerful. The acidity settles off to …

AP #2. Still very, very young, showing lots of primary Meyer lemon, pear and green apple fruit with a gentle herbal seasoning but little in the way of development. It's still incredibly refreshing and easy to drink though with restrained sweetness, tremendous acidity and remarkable focus and persistence. Fantastic.

Gorgeous whiff of kero on the nose. Fruit just starting to retreat on the palate but still long, full and delicious

Egon Muller Scharzhofberger vertical 1983 to 2006 (Bordeaux Index, London) : Rubber and petrol on the nose, mouthwatering, surprisingly full and sweet, tangy, botrytis, not big, but beautiful

The last bottle I had and oh my, what a send off. The corked was all the way soaked but still solid. The wine is exceptional. I was daring myself of how far I would let my last bottle go and decided that 10 years on a Kabinett was ready. Exceptional wine. I wouldn't reccomend holding onto this one any longer.

Bright, pale lemon, greenish tints, some small bubbles on side of glass. Intense, still fresh lime nose, some earthy/mineral hints, just a whiff of kerosene. Off dry, light bodied but with very good extract, refreshing, intense lime fruit, very long, crisp lime finish, mineral hints. Lovely, really must try and leave the last bottle for a few years!

Pale lemon, some spritz. Quite intense on the nose, initially very minerally with some petrol, becoming dominated by lime with some floral notes. Attractive and already quite complex. A medium dry, light bodied wine with medium/medium + acidity and quite intense lime and floral notes on the mid-palate, and lots of tangy lime and some mineral hints on a lingering finish. Overall an attractive Kabinett, with good depth and purity of fruit on the palate and a lovely complex nose. …

Clear, pale water white/lemon. Good intensity on the nose with kerosene, lime and floral notes. Beautifully balanced palate, medium dry with crisp acidity and pronounced lime, kerosene and floral notes. Very long lime/mineral finish, lovely cleansing acidity. Very good, starting to drink, will hold for a further 5-7 years.
