Popped and vinturi'd last night. Tight and wound up, even at 10 years of age. Medium bodied w/flavors of dark cherry, and some mint, along w/ very light oak. Pretty interesting wine bone dry, have never had anything quite like this. Day 2: Has opened and is a little deeper, tannins still present, would go well with burgers, ribs even pizza.

This wine had the acid to make the trip. To 2011. As I suspected it would. Tannat is so tannic that it ages well. Definitely past its peak, but not past drinkability really. Very good (84.5).

I am not experienced with Madiran wine, or Tannat. Therefore I withold judgment, for now. But my wine seller (a homonymn) tells me that this wine is 100% Tannat, contrary to a prior tasting note. I understand that Madiran specializes in Tannat. Interesting (if macabre) art on the label. Bottled at S.C.E.A. Chateau de Viella, Gers. What would Joseph Conrad say?

Dark purple color. Signifigant fruit on the nose. Some earth. Still very drying. Gritty tannins, but not a hue amount like the '01. This is an interesting wine, but it no longer carries the distinctness, almost mysterinous of the '01. I found out they put more Cab in now, and less tannat. In other words, mainstreamed it. Too bad.

Wow...the best wine ever (for me) with a Bonny Doon label on it. Nice pick! I'll buy more.
