Similiar experience to last year, lots of blackberry but smoother. Big nose. Delicious!

Redcurrant, cherry, wild flowers, a strong iron element and a touch of damp earth. Medium bodied. Steely, fresh finish full of bright red fruit. A couple of hours adds blackberry preserves, a savory edge and black pepper. This has aged so much better that the other (higher alcohol) 03 Novy Syrahs. The healthy acids give balance and zip.

A savory nose of grilled herbs, violets, camphor, red currant, a little cassis and asphalt. Smooth, nicely weighted on the palate with wild berry and a touch of chocolate. The peppery finish that has a nice amount of nervous energy without being overly acidic. Apart from a touch of tire rubber this wine has shed its reduction and is showing the best since release. All the pieces seem to be well integrated at this point. Drink soon.

Huge nose of blackberry,Lots of blackberry on the palate, cassis but not offputting, not the alcoholic note I usually associater with cassis, this was not cloying sweet but ripe fruit in the forefront. Thoroughly enjoyable.

Still with expressive grapefruit, smokey meat, black and blue berries. Finished with a fat vanilla feel and was not well focused. This was probably better earlier in its life (at least my TNs seem to show that).

Bright nose of red currant, blackberry, game, a touch of steminess and strong floral element. There is also a blood/iron aroma that is almost steely. A plush well balanced palate of wild berry, grilled meat and pepper. Lots of acid and pepper on the finish. I cannot decide if this has improved since release. It seems less reduced and the grapefruit has gone but the acid level is rather elevated. I think drink sooner than later.

This is so good, and I would have to agree with anybodies criticism that it hits you over the head with fruit , alcohol and tannins. But every sip is as amazingly interesting as the one before. The finish is less an experience in itself as it is an aftershock! Pair this with big food.

EXCELLENT I LOVE Novy wines. In a blind tasting I would have pegged this as Pinot Noir!

Double decanted for 20 minutes. Medium to full-bodied wine that is dark magenta/purple in color. On the nose, blueberries, smoke, and floral notes. On the palate, blackberries, black raspberries, and light vanilla oak on the decent 20-25 second finish. The balance is a bit light on the finish, but the sweet, forward fruit and the nice nose generally makes up for it. Drank best about 2-3 hours after decanting. Good QPR that provides the usual Novy pleasure!

The 'something citrusy' I noted back in 05 is now pretty much full-blown grapefruit (I had to recheck the label to be sure it wasn't a Rosella's). The other notes such as blueberry, pepper and herbs are still there too. Still has nice structure/acidity and is drinking great. I discounted a couple of points as the grapefruit was distracting, however this was still an interesting wine and pleasurable to drink - great with food. The high etoh was not an …

My third bottle TNd of this wine. Was looking for something to go with a kalamata olive, pesto and whole wheat pasta my wife had made. Figured the past runs with this bottle would show some nice red fruit and pepper to support the dish. Writing this TN, the wine has been open for nearly two full days. As with past bottles, the peppercorn note is still there, and still fairly dominant, just perhaps a tone less than when I …

Very nice cool climate syrah. Coffee, meat, pepper. Very complex. Long finish.

A nice nose of blackberry, coffee grounds, a floral edge and a hint of citrus. Medium bodied with lots of sweet red fruits, grilled meat flavors and a touch of pepper. The finish shows moderate length, having added a little grip over the last year. Generally shows an elegant cool climate profile. This improved on the second day, adding volume and length. Ready now and over the next 1-3 years.

Loads of pepper, that lingers on the very long finish. Otherwise well balanced and hides it's 15.4% well.

My 2nd post on this wine, with the earlier post last summer. This one seems more old world in feel, showing red fruits, espresso/coffee/bittersweet chocolate and the same white pepper nose of the first bottle. However, the main difference is the red fruit feel of this one. The wine shows the same red tones on the rim of the glass as it sits. This did not breathe long and maybe some of the darker fruits come back into the wine …

Decanted and poured. Medium to full-bodied wine that is dark ruby/purple in color. On the nose, dark fruits, light smoke, and pepper. On the palate, luscious blackberry liqeuer with some mocha notes on the long 30-second finish. This wine is a heady, glycerine-heavy concoction, much like the Novy Judge Family Syrah. Very tasty tooth-stainer here!

Pure green peppery nose that is fun, but overpowering. The pepper continues on the entry and the fruit is there, but it is a bit flabby and low acid on the finish. A very fun wine that would go well with a ribeye steak.

A few of us were talking about "white pepper" in wine bouquets, as we tasted a JC Cellars Ventana Syrah yesterday afternoon. I recalled from a recent bottle the Christiansen so I went to the cellar and grabbed one. Upon opening, BAM, yes the white pepper, and we chuckled about how this is like the Rosella's and some of the SLH fruit. Interesting about the Christiansen is the fruit is from the RRV. We sampled the bottle and took it …

Dark purple extraction. Expressive nose with an unusual profile of blueberry, something citrusy, and flowers. Just a terrific mouthfeel with great structure balancing out the somewhat massive fruit, punctuated with cracked pepper. Really like the acidity and tannin balance on this one as it supports a pleasing long finish.

Not a detailed note. @ Heffernan's Memorial Day Game Feed. Dark purple. Rich dark fruit, with a distinctive and pleasing hint of grapefruit that seconded the bottle sampled at the winery. Very nice and a great match with the venison back strap and duck sausage.

NYC Pinot offline featuring Siduri & Novy wines (.) : Dark purple to red. Lots of clean dark fruit. Blueberry and blackberry. Nice integrated oak and good length. The mid-palate to finish is great. Nice wine.

Tasted February 23, 2005 at an offline at Bradley Ogden Restaurant in Las Vegas, NC. Tasted immediately without decanting in restaurant stemware (unsure of which kind). Dark purple color in the glass. Eventhough the wine wasn’t giving up much yet (new bottling) I really like the more subdued nose and palate of bacon fat, currant, plums and a little smokiness. So far this is my favorite Novy bottling, more elegant in style than most of the Novy Syrah bottlings. Good …
