Domaine Santa Duc, Gigondas, Clos Derriere Vieille

i dont drink a lot of southern Rhone wine. Generally too alcoholic and too herbal for me. all the wines from Reynauld being the exeption. This one is a rather elegant and fine Grenache. Way more “South Rhone” in character than Reynaulds wines, but still a very fine and balances wine. Maybe even better with up to 5 years cellaring.

The wine has a pleasant sweetness and moderate acidity, with smooth tannins. It has a strong, well-defined structure and a good level of concentration. Overall, it is very delicious.

Quite juicy and flowing on the palate. Agree with others that this is very grenache. Perhaps a bit of spice and pepper poke through. Paired nicely with ground venison tacos.

Pure Grenache-juice, very loveable indeed with local spice, sweet, free running fruit. A joy to drink with out thinking too much, yet, there is plenty here to keep one entertained. #Kandestederne

Easy drinking time, the vintage speaks, albeit in a very elegant way. There is sweet Grenache here, full, mature fruit. Very approachable - while primary.

Santa Duc's 2018 Gigondas Clos Derrière Vieille is comprised primarily of Grenache, with significantly smaller aliquots of Mourvèdre and Syrah. It is loaded with black and red bramble fruits that are accented with Asian spices, Provençal herbs and Kalamata olives.
