Absolute distinguished masterpiece. Sensasional despite of high expectation. Oviously oxidized champagne but with genuine spirit of robust fruit itself. High acidity not only the oxidized acid but the acid of the grape. Full spectrum of aroma and palate with long intense finish. It might be in the gray zone of someone's preference, but no one could deny the exceptional level of completion.

This was a 2016 disgorged bottle, and the least oxidative bottle of substance I've had. This was all minerality and apple in a stunningly beautiful package.

Deg. 10/2021. A very elegant edition of this cuvee. Almost like a V.O in it's expression, but with a lot more depth to it. Maybe not as complex as the previous disgorgements I've had, but it still ranks on top of champagne for me personally.

2017. Quite oxidative, quite Selosse although not as round and rich as other examples.

2 JUILLET 2017. Fresh apples without overt oxidation. Touch lean for this wine. 93

April 2023 disgorgement. Lovely nose that feels very substantial (pun intended) with citrus peel, oranges, minerals, brioche, grapefruit, and some richer notes. Great acidity on the palate with fresh and complex notes of lemon, apples, more brioche and toast. Long finish. Fantastic wine! Maybe not the best disgorgement of Substance I had, but super delicious and very complex.

2019.11 dg Absolutely singing bottle. Sweet golden fruit, honey, butterscotch, oxidative complexity, supremely balanced with the right amount of acidity. Ready to go right out the bottle and kept on improving in glass. Finish was nicely complex, long, and had a mineral edge to it. A great bottle of Substance.

Ok this is my fav substance so far, previous feel like its a bit over to the heady side This one is very much having the fresh lift, the bouquet is just so welcoming, fresh meadow grass with rain drops, gardenia and chamomile, touch of verbana, mid summer nights dream, wrapped with honey and touch of chestnut and croissant crust The palate resonates, is more nectarine core Saline and bitter finish Disgorging date 2024/07/30 Somm was so kind to share …

Degorged 2021. The youngest base comprises 22 %. The blend is performed yearly and with at least six years before degorging. Golden yellow. Pure with shellfish, salty rock and seabed. Intense, potent acidic bite. Preserved yellow fruit, apples and chalk in layers. Gigantesque but still elegantly airy. Long finish.

Bordeaux in Danderyd : 2012 deg. 2008 base vintage My first Substance. Detailed nose of flowers and red berries. A bit shy but very pretty. After a while some biscuits and a touch of pear. On the palate fine mousse, more red berries, assorted citrus, grass, light cream and a chalky, dry minerality with some salt and iodine. Very, very long. Very elegant and refined. Beautifully blends those sweet berry notes with a marine backbone.

July 2013. Continues to be magnificent disgorgement. So deep, rich, fabulously complex. Lingers on the palate. Special stuff. At peak now

D18. Excellent to drink now with the right balance of oxidation, body and minerality. Excellent with carabineros.

2024 disgorgement. Fantastic nose! Bright fruited with lemon zest, a hint of peach, some floral notes, and oranges. Great acidity on the palate with flavors of apples, lemon, and minerals. Long finish. Outstanding Champagne! Complex and deep with so much appeal already.

Opened at Selosse. P&P and enjoyed. A Solera of '86 - '16. Substance isn't usually my favourite, as I prefer a bit more freshness, but given recent disgorgement this was definitely pretty fun to drink. Incredible complexity as you'd expect but not too oxidative yet. Lovely to try and thanks to AS for sharing!

Cult Growers & The Next Generation: Prévost vs. Selosse (Yingtao NYC) : Classic Substance depth: nuts, honeycomb, bruised apple, roasted citrus. Dense, silky, layered, vinous. Long, savory mineral finish. Demands full attention.

Disgorged in 2014. Really wonderful with the right amount of oxidation at this point of the evolution. Rich, vibrant and layered.

At Ristorante NIN, Brenzone su Garda, Lake Garda, Italy. Vintage assemblage 1986-2015. Tangerine, pine, grilled lemon, limestone, travertine, yuzu, and blanched hazelnut notes are encircled with more youthful flavors of yellow pear skin, quince, lemon pith, honeydew, and white travertine. This is an exquisitely vibrant Substance, perfectly marrying the deeper umami elements with the fresher yellow and white fruit and more mineral components. I very much appreciate that this doesn’t veer into the heavier oxidative butterscotch and sappy sherry lane. …

The Selosse litmus test. Disgorged December 4th, 2008. Given all the hype and diversity of opinions on this cuvee I was expecting something extreme, but this has the soul of Selosse you find across all of his cuvees. Yes, maybe the oxidation is turned up a bit, particularly in the beginning that began with lots of bitter almond, a bit of sherry character. But these wines need to breathe. As it opened up though delicious layers of stone fruit: peach, …

Opened at Whale in HK. P&P and enjoyed. Disgorgement '11 Consistent with previous bottle, and from the same batch. Signature Selosse and will never go wrong. Interestingly, this was served alongside an '02 disgorged Selosse (apparently the predecessor to the Initial) and this felt even fresher despite the Solera system. Both amazing champagnes though and a great way to kick off a wonderful evening of wine.

Opened at Whale in HK. P&P and enjoyed. Disgorgement '11 Gorgeous, and exactly what you expect from a mature Selosse Substance. Rich golden yellow in colour, enjoyably oxidative with that signature hint of pear... always a pleasure and already looking forward to the next one. Great to share with RC in HK!

Nose: apricot, citrus, green apple, sherry, white flower, honey Notes: 12.5% ABV. Unfortunately the NFC doesn't work so not much information is available. Oxidative as usual. Very nice and expressive nose here but this is not as good as my last one unfortunately. Although I'm unaware of the disgorgement date, I do feel this requires a bit more time to get to its perfect state. This is good but I can't say I enjoyed this one as much as my …

Nose: honey, baked apple, white flower, red date, vanilla, yellow fruits, yellow flowers, honeydew, citrus Notes: 12.5% ABV with 1.33g dosage, disgorged July 2024. This is really smooth and delicious on the palate showing plenty of complexity and excellent intensity, probably an effort created by the textbook solera system. Highly aromatic and plenty of good things happening here, the honeydew nose is indeed quite amazing. The oxidative notes are here but the freshness is so prominant and everything here is …
