Splash decant. Very deep dark (nearly opaque) magenta color. Walnut, dried fig, cassis, licorice, cacao, peppercorn, and subtle sugar-cured jerky. Smooth, very dry, somewhat chalky palate, with tongue coating acidity. There’s a slight leather note on the palate. Firm, medium intensity tannins on the medium long+ finish. Split a bottle with my friend Ian last week in downtown McMinnville. This kept improving over an hour of drinking. Very solid QPR here.

tasting ground official tasting, blind tasting #16 (Oinoscent) : Fragrant, black fruit freshness, some olive notes, heavy floral notes, fine and dense spice layer, thick fruit core. Palate shows full body, much smoother than expected, yes the tannins are hugr and thick but not angular, there is a herbal (stalk/tea tannins) bitterness, long finish. Give it time

Enjoyed this nearly as much as the Maestra I opened this past weekend. Dark color. Obvious Côte-Rôtie nose with dark fruits, olives, meaty funk and sage. On the palate, blackberries, plum, pepper, olives, herbs and raw beef. Really good but i prefer other Côte-Rôtie producers by quite a bit.

Beautiful Syrah, still young but no regrets opening this one. Purplish colour, with notes of blue fruits, bacon and meat. Oak is present but not overly powerful. I’ll wait 3-5 years for my other one, this should add quite a bit of complexity when it all comes in together.

Had while ago and can't remember notes specifically but thought this was very nice and well balanced. Nice old school syrah freshness without being gloopy or heavy.

Nose of cold red and black fruit, roasted bacon... Tannins puissants, slightly drying in a nice way, black ripe fruit, integrated tannin.

A bit reticent red fruits but floral notes, game, olive. Needs a little time but it’s tasty if a bit opaque not that delineated at this point. Medium plus body with plenty of acid and some firmness to the tannin.

Opened in the bottle for a few hours. More rustic and gamey than the Les Journaries. Blackberry, smoked meat, wet earth, game, violet and mineral. Good acid and tannin but drinkable now.

Return to Willamette; 7/2/2023-7/8/2023 (Portland & Willamette) : A producer that I quite like and fun to get to try this wine since we’ve got a bunch of it in pending. It’s got the structure and iron ore background I expect from Cote Rotie. Quite tasty.

Blueberry, meat, tar and flowers. Medium plus intensity on the nose. Medium plus acidity and high tannins. Silky texture. Feels lighter on its feet, nevertheless a serious wine. Medium plus finish.

Opened well in advance given how young the wine is. Deep and rich nose. The palate is concentrated with notes of red and blue fruit, pepper and smoke. Very tasty.

Nose of smoked meat, very black fruit... Very concentrated with cold black fruit, very silky tannin, lots of potential ahead, needs 3-5 additional years in the bottle.

This is my first time (that I can remember) with this cuvée. I bought this at the wine bar and let it open up when I got home. The nose is still a bit tight after an hour+ of air, but the quality is clearly there with balanced and savory tones of black Cherries, raspberries, licorice, currants, violets, crushed rocks, black pepper, fresh leather, and some spice notes. The Medium/full bodied feel shows off the balance and savory qualities of …

If I wasn't lazy and stupid, I should turn the bottle over and read on the back label that it's better not to open it until 2025. Well, it is what it is. Smell is lovely. Minerals, smoke, red cherry, black berry and... flowers ( amazing surprise). Taste...oh after 3 hours in decanter it still kicks my tongue with black pepper! No good! But don't blame the wine, blame me. Flavors - minerals, red cherry, orange, black olives ( nice), …

Bill & Crew - Offline #2 - Hartsyard Farewell : Earthy, peppery, violets and some light stalks. Tight and coiled still, quite youthful with red fruits mixing well with the earthy characters and with plenty of structure in place. Significantly better than a recent 2004.

2007 France Trip - Vernay, Levet, Clusel-Roch, Jasmin (Northern Rhone) : The basic cuvee had a similar profile to the 2005 Chavaroche, but was a touch greener and more tannic.
