A wine we have had maybe 10 times over the last 7-8 years and albeit we have had some variation in scores ( Papies 90-93) this was up there with the best. The nose is just magical burgundy and albeit it does have still a touch of an oaky dynamic it blends well with the soft smoky style of Gevrey-Chambertin character. The palate is well evolved and silky on the tannin still quite youthful if we might add and is …

A good bottle as unfortunately isa wine with a bit of variability ( Papies 90-93 in the last 6 years in 7 occasions). Soft, elegant, light earth, soft red fruits. Still a lot of life albeit it is well evolved and spans but the lightest kiss of a smoky finish. Very pretty when a good bottle arrived and an easy 92-93 again.

A wine with a lot of bottle variability. After a solid 93 from 2 consistent bottles buck in Dec this one was odd. Definitely the color says Burgundy but on the nose and palate it was a lot darker, riper and denser than expected. We have had these inconsistencies with this wine for some time now ( the last few from the same case too) over the 5-6 years so not sure if its the wine or the vintage that …

A bday dinner (Orrery, London) : Finally this wine has arrived. We have had this a few times in the past ( Papies 90-92 and some inconsistent ones) so we were a bit worried alas fear no more. At the tender age of 17 this has evolved nicely , earthy, secondary notes blend well with darkish fruit, soft smoky and polished. Beautiful wine and an easy 93 and good to see this old friend in such a good place. Lots …

Lovely with nice pinot perfumed nose. Both dark and red fruits and beginning mature earthy notes. It can still evolve positively from here but fine now.

A very variable wine and this time did not perform , had a dry edge and frankly given pedigeee and vintage was a disappointment. Also atypical on the palate. We have some great bottles of this ( Papies 92) and a series of poor ones though. Will not rate by no better to us than a 89-90 on this occasion

A pretty good bottle this time round and would have benefitted from some more time of rest or a small decanting. Not the best of bottles we have had but also not the worse. We would definitely decant the next. Solid very pretty Burgundy , elegant and classic but just lacks a bit more of exciting factor! Good 90-91 but definitely could be better.

We dnt know what to make of this wine. We had 4 bottles the first was a 90 then the next two were solid 92s ( We bought another 12 on the back of those) and the one we had on this occasion was back to a 90, buttoned down and not very expressive. Hhhm the jury is out here.

Following a poor performance of this wine 2 month ago ( Papies barely a 90) the 2 bottles we had on this day redeemed the wine. Opened and left to rest for a good 45 minutes and post that mark it was just a beautiful and elegant expression of well made Burgundy. Dark fruits, spice, well evolved but still not secondary, softer side to it, lovely expression of Pinot on the nose, light smoky too. On the palate it is …

Pre Chistmas Dinner at The Papies (The Papies, Elizabeth St, London) : On open the wine had a charm and an generosity on the nose but unfortunately by the time we came across it ( a good 1.5hrs later) its as if it tailed off and was less charming and not very exciting. in a way almost disappointing given the pedigree here. Felt like a 90-91 but really we need to wait for the next bottle before we can be …

Earthy notes on the nose with hint of mint/menthol notes. On the pallete, very ripe red fruit notes on approach with strong background of soil notes. Rather intense approach as well. Wonderful integration of earthiness and fruitiness. Real quality masculine, powerful stuff here. Good finish, very lively and enjoyable but definitely not at its apogee yet.

Tasting. Very impressive for the vintage, this showed the intense ripeness of the 2006 vintage but balanced with above average structure and elegance. Very fun now and mostly still primary, this has the bones to age gracefully and I expect will just start showing its real, nuanced potential in another 2-5 years.

Chassin Tasting Event at 96 Winery Road (96 Winery Road) : Light+ ruby red. Intense plums and raspberries, lifted and attractive. The palate exudes richness with plenty of ripe black plum fruit, gently rubbing sandy texture, touch of chalk dust with that subtle power of Gevrey. The wine is a nod to modernity over classic Gevrey and a slight coffee grind note is a little intrusive. Despite this there is a fabulous concentration, cocoa powder tannins and quite juicy in …

Dark and brooding stuff. Nose gives me green twigs and dust. After half an hour in the glass it gives me sweetness and flowers. The palate is mighty and concentrated, starting to show tertiary tastes of medicinal cabinet, more dust and a lot of tannins. Impressive and a bit different from the fruit-driven burgs I usually drink. Not bad, but not quite my cup of tea. 50+5+13+16+7

Chassin Tasting Event at Ouverture (Ouverture Restaurant, Stellenbosch) : Organically farmed the Cazetiers is on the north of the village of Gevrey and requires patience in bottle as the wines tends to be more tannic and hold higher acid levels making them austere when young. The ideal is to leave it in the cask longer to soften. This producer ferments at 33ºC and uses quite a bit of wood in the blend; no racking. Light to mid-ruby, the perfumed nose …
