Dark purple in the glass. Nice nose of cassis, plum and vanilla. Silky and fruit driven palette. Enjoyable, well made and nicely styled, but generally not what we'd reach for these days.

Very light color and no noticeable bricking. The fruit is good with a hint of spice. This is from an age when I enjoyed Cali Cab.

Very good wine. Id read the quality had really dropped but I was pleasantly surprised. Nice fruit that is blended to not overpower. Tanins are mid range. Very drinkable.

Amazing! Notes of dark fruit, especially blueberry cobbler, followed by some roasted oak and vanilla on the finish.

Color is still quite deep. Dark fruit and a bit of minty on the nose Medium acid plum dark fruit. A bit of jammy compost Low tannin. Long finish.

2007 vintage

Nose was very jammy but on first taste was way too soft. Not much tannin present for only a 6 year (caymus). Almost syrupy. Thought it needed time. Checked a few hours later (still in bottle) and still syrupy and overly fruity. Sealed to try again next day and wine already turned. Nose was way off from the previous day. A big let down for a Caymus. Hoping was just a bad bottle.

Decanted for 60 minutes. Lots and lots of dark fruit. Somewhat jammy. Could use a little more acid and tannins. Still overall pleasant to drink.

Surprised me - there was good deal of structure and energy in the wine, compared to my past experiences with Caymus. Some tannins, not too much oak, lots and lots of fruit but lacks acidity. The alcohol is subdued making it a pleasanter version of the fruit bomb that Caymus is.

The 2020 vintage has quieted a bit since my last tasting notes 2+ years ago. But the core elements remain -- dark fruit (esp. currant), loamy earth, milk chocolate, a bit of vanilla. Smooth and soft.

Not as complex as I had hoped. Lots of fruit to start, almost opened as a Zin. Not sure it was quite worth the price point, but it’s a lovely wine nonetheless.

Quiet evening in Los Angeles. Dark fruit on the nose, soft tannins, and a calm, lingering finish. Not a wine that demands attention, but one that invites you to slow down and listen. Enjoyed in silence, and somehow felt complete

2007 vintage

Good bottle. Early in the drinking there was a hint of sweetness on the upper palate, but after the bottle was open for a while it dissipated (thankfully). Medium+ bodied. Average finish. Good, not great. A little pricey.

Very sound and what the guests were seeking. Big, jammy dark fruit and semi sweet. Good with a little age on it, but not much different in profile than a 2022 opened beside it. 90

Completely flat. Almost no acidity left. Tannins are mellow but there‚Äôs nothing else there.

Very drinkable, but nothing to it. Tannins extremely mild. Acidity pretty low. Nose is oak, vanilla, blackberry. Palette is pencil shavings and plum. Medium finish.

2020 vintage

For a 1996, this bottle started quickly off the blocks and was great. Still quite fruity and tannins fully resolved. The first 15 minutes was the best. However, after about an hour, the wine started to fall apart for me. The palate started to sour a bit and there was a flatness that by the last glass, I didn't want to finish it. It's still good and recognizable, but starting to lose its character. Boiseberry, mint and so on are still there, but starting to fade.

I bought this bottle in April 2020, and I wanted to see if it had the ability to age. Upon opening, it was tight and overly jammy with some petrol on the pallet. After an hour in the decanter, it began to open up and actually presented very well. But still not worth the price I paid for it.

Drank from coravin last nite. Very dark purple color. Ripe black fruit, quite jammy as expected. Very primary, light tannins, not overly complex, fairly sweet though not overly oaked, big and chunky. Needs time. I'll decant the rest before I drink it

I loved the old Caymus with Charlie, recently loved the 1990 Spec Sel. This wine was over extracted, pruney, so unpleasant my wife would not drink it, we poured out the bottle still 75% full, undrinkable, sad what Caymus has become, from one of the best Cali cabs to a brand to avoid.

Enjoyed this and tastes like now is the time to enjoy. Smooth and round with sweet plum and blueberry. Decanted about an hour.

One of the last vintages of this wine being drinkable. Cherry, smoke, cranberry and spices. A bit bitter on the finish.

Stewed dark fruit, mild tannin, low acidity. Good but not great. Easy drinking, good for a crowd.
